Developers will make too much money etc etc is galling, If it means developers making money by building on state owned land thus helping

They just want social housing on public land and all built by the Government which you will lease your house from.

If a developer wants to build 20 mansions at €2 million each in Douglas let him do so and if some people are willing and somehow able to afford those fine and it will free up 20 other houses for sale or to rent.

But there is a massive contradiction between screaming about a housing crisis and saying how you would solve it, and then
objecting to developments, All these huge social housing projects promised by parties will create issues, lack of infrastructure etc

People with legitimate objections at the mercy of corrupt officials.

Developers are in the profession of buying land and investing in same for a return on that investment.
Is there something wrong with that?

Doctors are in a profession also and guess what, they make a profit too as does every profession, business and trade

Are you suggesting that Developers should also be providing social services and roads ?

It is up to local authorities and Government agencies to provide infrastructure and developers have to contribute to a fund for same for every development they complete.

There were a grand total of 754 new homes built in all of Cork City (including the boundary extension areas) last year. That is fuck all, and how many of them were socal housing, and how many were left for the private sales/family/first time buyer market?

Also there were just 98 apartments built, at a time when higher density housing is exactly what we need. We'd all love to see thousands of semi detached houses streaming into the market but the reality is the problem is so bad we need apartments, and fast.

But if just 13% of New supply is apartments, that's not fast enough.

Where exactly do developers get a "free pass"?

They have to spend small fortunes on planning applications, engineering, environmental reports, traffic audits, planning appeals etc and it all has to tie in with the local area plan that the locals were consulted on and the politicians subsequently voted through and can all be viewed in the Councils development plans online.

The same politicians then object on behalf of locals (who have homes) for votes while complaining about a housing "crisis".


People who need somewhere to live simply do not stand a chance.

How many objectors are on the housing list or trying to buy a home?
