Cyclists

The population of Youghal has barely budged over the past few years, so its nowhere near the highest growth region in the county, nevermind the country.
There are lots of other places one should target first, the most obvious being the new stations in Monard, Blarney, Tivolli and Dunkettle.

Sure, maybe in 10-20 years one could look at it again, but right now, priority should be elsewhere.

As to my points, fuck all people would use it. Why do I know this?
Because there is plenty of capacity on the Middelton line, which is a far far bigger town. So why would a smaller town than Youghal be more successful?
Nice selective statistics m8.
Yes the population of Youghal with it transport options has not changed much.
However the east Cork area has absolutely mushroomed over the last 50 years.
Carringtwohill and Midleton being the two obvious examples but the whole area beyond as well. In fact the only reason it hasn't been even bigger growth is the lack of a railline and no bypass on villages killing the commute by road option.
However a train line would make Youghal a viable commuter hub and would also grow the villages of Mogeely and Killeagh.

It's not an either or situation. There are over 150000 people immigrating into Ireland yearly looking for housing now. Cork is rapidly expanding. We can develop the north Cork line as well.
In 20 years the problems will be worse and the solutions more difficult.
To quote a movie.

Wank is only concerned that the cycle way will be sacrificed for the rail link

Double Tracking is happening here, and there are plans for more stations on that line. A P+R in Carrigtwohill I believe.

I have no problem in theory of extending a rail line to Youghal in decades to come, but its really a low priority at the moment, given that its far more likely the N25 will be upgraded in the medium term.

2 years in prison for ending a child's life with his dangerous driving in a Ford Wildtrak.

The sentence is too lenient for the crime committed, not that it's an surprise.

A terrible case. Sentance too short IMO. He should also have a lifetime driving ban.

A father, whose young son was killed while out cycling after a driver failed to stop at a pedestrian crossing controlled by a red light, has said that he will never get over the "violence of the impact" of the collision between the vehicle and the bike.

César Ladeiro said before crossing, his eight-year-old son André had waited for 'the green man', but "this driver's actions killed my son".

But but but...cyclists.

The lifetime driving ban would have put an end to his business if he’s the same guy with that name and address on the internet. I think there was a delay in sentencing a few months back and it wouldn’t surprise me if this is what it was about.

RIP that young child.
