i think , like it or not alot of the greens agenda will happen. apparently we( this country) face huge fines unless we become alot "greener".But but we were told this stuff would stop if we voted out the Greens !

The old train line passes through monotonous farmland mostly, if folks are going for the sea view they will be disappointed…Complete insanity not putting the train back in service.Took my chance to do the Midleton - Youghal greenway on the bike earlier. It kicks off at the train station in Midleton, plenty of free parking, handy out. There was a lot of people using it, lots of families, walkers, runners, and a scattering of cyclists. After weaving my way through a couple of kms of them it eases out but then each time you come into the next ‘station’ the crowds increase again either side of it.
It’s 23km to Youghal and then another 2km into the town. I was after a coffee and ended all the way in at the priory by the time I could get one. Not sure if the town hasn’t reacted to the new opportunity for customers on that side yet or whether it was the bank holiday but there was nothing open, and doesn’t even seem to be places setting up at the start/end of the greenway there.
Enjoyed the ride but I won’t be back.. it must be the most monotonous route imaginable, I know train lines are planned to be simple routes but this is a straight line from one end to the other and hardly waivers up or down either. The whole thing felt like a really good cycling simulator by the end!
I think I’d park in Tivoli/Glounthaune next time and start there, head for Midleton and head out to maybe Killeagh and back again for a bit more variety
The lack of joined up thinking in this country is infuriating. Surely it would make sense to put the train back in service and build houses, houses and more houses along the line. The old train line passes through monotonous farmland mostly, if folks are going for the sea view they will be disappointed…Complete insanity not putting the train back in service.
There must be a decent reason not to have? The lack of joined up thinking in this country is infuriating. Surely it would make sense to put the train back in service and build houses, houses and more houses along the line.
I know feck all about construction but I know ancillary services like water connections are an issue in a lot of house building projects. Obviously planning would need to be joined up too. There must be a decent reason not to have?
Given the width of the greenway now I’d say it would have only fit one track wide, maybe that would have been enough and the one train could just have run up and down?
You do realise that you are heading to east Cork like, which is dull as fuck. A bike ride is hardly gonna liven up the misfortunate place. it must be the most monotonous route imaginable, The whole thing felt like a really good cycling simulator by the end!
“Irish Rail project manager AJ Cronin said the width of the original land which was set aside when the railway was constructed is sufficient to build a twin track alongside the greenway which is currently being developed.“There must be a decent reason not to have?

That is crap, I hope your friend is ok.A friend of mine knocked down cycling home last night in a cycle lane.. some scrote came flying along the footpath towards them on a e-scooter, jumped onto the cycle lane on the wrong side, smashed into 3 cyclists with my buddy the first hit so the other 2 landed on him and broke his elbow.
The shithead on the scooter sped off and left them all there.. FFS![]()
