Cork Footballers

Good win in the end. This team do have a habit of finding themselves in deep holes, but TBF they've dug themselves out of the last two. Also interesting to see a side which had previously struggled to score from play run up 2-15 with no placed balls. Looking at the league table, Cork have managed a reasonably healthy 79 points in five games. The real problem is at the other end - they have conceded more than anyone else in D2, including Kildare.

I felt Mcsweeny today was almost afraid to use the ball Every time he got it he either passed it backwards or sideways Rarely went direct like a wing forward should do and I for one wasn't surprised when he was called ashore He will have better days .His replacement was more direct and it paid dividedens

Exactly Deane's power and direct running made a huge difference aswell, but O Callaghan's driving run straight from the throw in at the start of the 2nd half was the sign of things to come. They looked nervous and unsure of themselves until they started running directly at Kildare. I will say Kildare started on fire but once Maguire and O Callaghan got on top around the middle their challenge fell apart. Gough kept them in it with a very soft penalty and some very questionable free's. But overall a much improved second half performance and showed that we can play good football when the shackles are thrown off

I’d rather a fella in goals with a physique like his but has variety to his kickouts rather than Micheal A Martin who is like a bodybuilder but can only tap it to a free man 20m away from him or boot the ball to his left.
Ffs.

Kildare put fuck all pressure on cork kick outs.

They went well for us, but comparing it to a match where there was pressure put on is foolish.

David Gough is a pathetic referee.

He cost us a win v Kerry last year with an outrageous penalty and black card

He was a complete cunt today, awarding a penalty that no other ref in the country would have given. If that was a penalty then we'd see 5 or 6 penalties in every game.
He gave Kildare a few softish frees too IMO

I hope that prick never refs one of our games again

Agreed!! That was a soft penalty.

Cork played very well at times today. Getting closer. Thought O’Driscoll and Corbett were very good. This was always going to be the pivotal game in the league for us and they delivered.

A win in Navan would really set them up for the championship. Armagh and Donegal look a level above the rest of the division. Gough gave a very soft pen today that could have turned out to be pretty advantageous to Meath. Not great optics but the one he gave Kerry at the same end last summer was worse I suppose.
