Bus Eireann

Bit later, Deco was a bus conductor in the commitments that was 91

I remember some of the drivers were on an old contract that mandated a conductor right into the early 00s but they were few and far between.

Yer man would just sit down the back with the big yoke around his neck while the driver still took the cash at the door
I remember if a bus would stop suddenly while the conductor was collecting fares he would do a bit of a moonwalk down the aisle,

There was a conductor on the 6/206 bus til around 2008 I'd say. He was an old fella, grey hair with glasses, and when you'd get on the bus he'd wave you down to a seat and come down with some prehistoric machine that printed out little tickets.

My mum told me once that yer man was loaded and whatever contract he was on they couldn't get rid of him so he just did the job as a hobby

No the PAD's were made in the UK Soundy, I know you despise the thought..
They are Limerick cast offs, the entire fleet in Limerick is going to be 100% electric very soon.

WHat bothers me is that Cork the second city in this state is having to make do with Limerick cast offs.
But not to worry, we'll soon be getting our own Luas type public tram. It's just around the corner you know. Our government has promised us such modes of public transport in the drive to be green.

And if you believe that, they also have some magic beans for your delectation

Take that to the Grab All Association of the Sports Forum.
This is not the first time at all that Cork is getting cast aways from Limerick.
Around 22 of the existing VWD's in Cork started out in Limerick and most of them are carrying L regs.

The logic here is, the hills in Cork are a nightmare for any other technologies other than diesel engines for now.
So when the PAD's were new in 2021 they were allocated to Galway, Cork got their VWD's.
Then the PAD's were delivered to Limerick in 2022, Cork then got their VWD's.

So is there some kind of cunning plan to get rid of the hills of Cork, or will our public transport for the foreseeable be reliant on diesel. And is someone going to tell the cyclist lobby who assure us that cycling around Cork makes every bit as much sense as cycling around dryer and much flatter dublin?

What we really need is for Sinn Fein to get into power, they'll sort everything

We can get our buses from Belfast and Belgrade then instead of Limerick

Oh FFS, as if there isn't already a prominent SF thread, if there's even a hint of government being criticised for not following through on government promises, the guy who's too embarrassed to admit who he votes for (he even goes so far as to claim he doesn't even vote) wants to somehow point the finger at SF.

As bots go MOE, you're not very subtle.

No there is no cunning plan, Cork will eventually go electric.
It is impossible at the moment as Capwell Garage is over capacity so doing the necessary civil works in there, for electric chargers is not possible.
They are currently working on the new depot in Tivoli, that will take pressure off Capwell and it is then that they will get on with the civil works there.
Basically so, a diesel bus can run 24 hours a day, an electric cannot, the hills in this city will mean the electric buses will need more charging than usual.
Therefore we will probably end up with 30% more buses, just to provide the current service that the diesel ones are doing.
As in the electric ones will be sitting at chargers for hours on end.

You remind me of someone but I can't put my finger on who

That Luas will be dead handy for getting home after watching Elton John or Christy Moore in the events centre.

😉
Eliminate Northside services and you avoid the hills!
