Bus Eireann

They should be used to invest in proper public transport. We also have no competition or a dedicated Cork Bus company as we are stuck with Bus Eireann who are just backward.

The Yanks are well used to crap public transport and no public transport anyway.
I would agree that we need a dedicated local bus service. One simple thing that would help the current malaise would be a GPS tracker on every bus, so when you re standing at the cold wet bus stop, you d have some idea where your bus would be. No doubt the bus drivers bus union would not like this and would probably strike rather than let this simple measure be introduced

I heard the Unions were against GPS tracking on busses but as long as it's only for checking the position of the bus relative to a bus-stop, and doesn't contain information regarding who's driving the bus, I don't see what any Union's problem could be with it tbh. 🤷‍♂️

I'd say they re very much against it, cause then they'd be accountable for the poxy service they deliver. Don't see it being introduced without some massive compensation and even then I'd imagine there ll be drivers that won't have it over their dead bodies. Never mind that it would provide a very useful service to the general public. We re well down the pecking order when it comes to the bus service list of priorities.

You think the reason BE can not find sufficient numbers of bus drivers to drive their allocated fleet is because some people on a local anonymous message board refer to one of their number as Otto after the Simpson's character? :oops:

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
To call you stupid, must at this stage be a compliment, you really are dumb.

Call me whatever the fock you want, I was merely using that Otto thing as an example.

It's the way you and other posters here seem to look down on bus drivers is my point, which obviously went right over your head you absolute puppet.

I have a GPS on my bike, so it's very much not because of cost or technology. Oh what would the drivers say. We best not upset them. Let's continue to deliver our non poxy service.

God help them if the waiting public were fully informed where the next bus was.

We should also be able to tap our debit cards

Leap cards are fine but there is always some eejit fumbling for change when boarding are they are always taken by total surprise that the driver might ask them to pay the fare once on board.

The unions only care about the pay and conditions for their members and not any modernisation or improvements to the service.

That there sums it up perfectly, that old mindset is still there.
That Bus Eireann is for the employees first and foremost and the passengers second.

But what could the drivers have against GPS tracking as long as the tracking is only used for bus positional information (which is all their union would need to agree to). If the company just wanted to use the information to keep the customers posted in real time as to how far off the bus is then no worries - but if the company tried to use the information to monitor any driver they would be in breach of GDPR as it wouldn't be for the agreed intended use. It's surely not beyond the wit of the company or unions involved.

I don't look down on bus drivers at all - I think they've a tough job and as it happens I'm one of those guys who always thanks the drivers. Pal I went to school with is a bus driver btw. It's just your stupidity that I marvel at - you even make Simpson's Otto look like a Mensa candidate :ROFLMAO:
