Training Run Times

It's a major deal with race organisers Marky:

1. They've refused people entry into the event based on capacity, and now there's others coming in the back door
2. If an athlete collapses out on the course (and this happens at least once in pretty much every big race), the medical support team will have all the wrong info from the number
3. If you give the pass to a faster athlete (or from a woman to a man), it can totally screw up the AG and the team prizes
4. The entry is "Carmona, Race number 1234" but it's not Carmona racing at all - so the results will be attributed to the wrong person - like getting someone else to sit your leaving cert. People have used this trick to get a BQ in the past and there was uproar.

Even in local races, it's a big no-no, and like the example C. gives there, they really go after you. One of our running circle took an unofficial number swap at the Ballycotton 10 a few years ago - he was banned from the event for a year, and was only let back into local racing after a grovelling apology.
Would it be just random spot checks at the bigger events or something more automated? Unlucky either way.

I'm not complaining, btw. I know the rules. There was a tiny detail during the race which should have told me they were on their game. I was waiting for the elites to pass by km9 and a few mins before they arrive a motorbike revs up and the girls on the back whips out a tablet, chats with the steward and ticks a box on her machine. I thought, fuck, that's organisation; she was evidently checking that the appointed stewards were in place......

Thanks lads. C'mere this aging shite is no fun. Remember back in the day I'd be going back to Cork and I'd meet up with one or both of you for an auld jog or two. No questions asked!! Jesus, I remember doing a track session with TimeO one day, 2x5k, was it?? What did we do, two 19 minute reps. Christ that was tough, and another one with the Ruari lad. Terrier had to give me a fooking hot crossed bun and a cup of tea in his shack afterwards. I was groggy after the 6x1mile. Most of the ones with the T were more chat'n'run. 'Cept Rotterdam 😃🤕🤔😂

I remember I was training for the national 50k one year and was running 29 miles one Sunday morning - you nailed a HM with me in the middle of the piece. LOL, you joined me after 14 (down to Passage and back) and took me out to 27 with two spins around the Blackrock loop and the Monahan Road.
You're right, things were nuclear-powered back then.

I remember that one T, but I thought it was myself and TimeO doing the first half of the run with you. Maybe that was another one. Then there was a funny run where we were tipping along and you took off for the last km. I remember myself and TimeO looking at one another thinking, what's this madman up to? Turns out you were prepping some marathon in California!!

Lol...I particularly remember that last one as I was returning from (yet another) injury and struggling to stay with ye for the easy-paced stuff before yer man took off by Blackrock castle

Knocked out 18.5km earlier.. determined not to feel like shit again so I cooked some pasta, ate a bit an hour before the run, and the rest the minute I was in the door. Feeling much better so we seem to have figured it out!

I ran a bit too fast, was really enjoying it as I struck out and thought I was running slower than I was, when I realised it I had about 3.5km done so I finished the first 5km in 26 mins flat which is pretty much where you would need to be to beat 1:50. I pulled the pace back for the rest and finished with 5:23/km overall, just shy of 1:40 running

Hard to know where I’ll be on the day as I have no sense of what pace I can run an extended distance at! It doesn’t exactly feel like I have a load left in the tank but I could have a chat the whole way round. I’d say my aerobic capacity is improved but the legs still feel the distance and time
