Training Run Times

Following up on Jimmy's 10k race there, I did Trier this morning. Twas fucking boiling and I had been boozing and socialising for the month of June. Had settled on 45 mins (easy compute of 4.30 pace) as a target for first real race of the year. In one year, I've lost so much pace it ain't funny. Tell ya what, I was close to pulling out halfway through. Brutal. After 2k I was feeling it! In the end the 44.40 felt ok, tbh. Think I did 41.20 or something there last year..... Came in as 3rd ancient lad but wouldn't be consoled by that now. One mate dropped out of the Half and the other two were way off their pbs. Look, it beats doing fuck all and getting fat. Though not by much perhaps. We keep going.

COURTMACHERRY 10K
Headed down nice and early last night, Made a mistake of parking in the first field we came to, Had a walk of about a mile to get
to the rowing club to pick up my number, It was fairly misty and took shelter there, Headed for the start line, Id say there were close to 500 runners,
Started 8pm and headed towards Timoleague, 1st mile 8.20 which was faster than planned, 2nd mile 8.28 again faster than planned,
Got into Timoleague and a lap of the village saw us turning to face back to courtmac, A few people came out of the pub to cheer us on, Pints in hand,
mile 3 8.36, mile 4 8.33 , I was beginning to tie up by then, mile 5 was tough 9.20, Kept plugging away, A girl who i had passed at mile 3 came up alongside
me and had a word of encouragement and off she went, Mile 6 9.12 , Finished 55.03 , Distance measured 6.29 rather than 6.20,
It was raining at this stage so after a quick chat with my club mates myself and my 14 year old young fella who came to watch headed for the car,
On the way home i said we will stop in innishannon for a bag of chips between us and we can tip away at them as i drove,
I sent himself into the chipper with my card, He came out with chips covered in cheese and garlic, I said i told you just plain chips so i can pick away,
H e replied oh they dont sell plain chips at all, I just had to laugh at his cleverness,
Nice one Jimmy, sounds like a nice outing - good times with the youngfella as well for you 👍

I got out for my first proper run in a very long time this morning. I’m down in Kerry so did 8km out on the maharees peninsula.. beautiful run but I’ve lost so much running fitness it’s incredible. Still, I got through it at 5.50 pace. I have 4 weeks to the Brandon Bay 10km race end of July. Just finishing it reasonably comfortably is the target

You’re still flying as far as I’m concerned!

Had targetted sub 36 , Finished 35 mins , Happy with that,
Have had a good run with races since april

Nice one Jimmy, back in to the swing of things nicely

I got 3 runs in this week, which is the same as the number of runs I had got in between the new year and last week! 8km Monday, 5km Wednesday, 5km last night. Tough going starting it all off again but already feeling much better and good to be back at it pain free

You'll need to be out at about 5am I'd say!
You can come back with the hot baguettes for breakfast each morning and be a hero :)

When the kids were younger we used go to one of those camps in Tuscany. They had a 50m outdoor olympic pool which was phenomenal so every morning it was myself and a few Germans in knocking out the lengths, and then I'd pick up the hot pain au chocolats on the way back for the kids and a coffee for myself and the missus. Happy days

Good man Jimmy, looks like you've found your sweet spot. Great to see it (y)

Tough run tonight, 1 mile warm up, 5 x 2 mins up a very steep hill, 1.5 mile CD
I got away on holidays Friday so using it get get training back on track
Saturday- 70km over the Conor Pass on the bike
Sunday- 8km run
Monday - 1km sea swim, first time this year. Rough conditions but got out feeling magic
Today - 5km run

The weather has been 30 degree sunshine to lashing rain and everything in between so just going with whatever works on the day as opposed to having a set plan. I’ll get back in the sea tomorrow
