The Official Tennis Thread

From a sporting/marketing/advert perspective it’s obvious they need Novak but still…
Who are 'they? Tennis Australia don't make the decisions on medical exemptions. If it was up to them, the Australian Open wouldn't have had the strict mandate on vaccines/medical exemptions in the first place, like every other sporting tournament on the planet.

The exemptions decisions are made by independent medical experts in the Victorian Health Department and the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisations, with the personal details of the person redacted on privacy grounds. I doubt Australia is some provincial banana republic where you can bribe government officals to let a tennis player play a tournament there.

Other players with exemptions arrived to Melbourne last week, but nobody cared.

No doubt Jamie Murray, brother of Andy Murray who lost 4 Australian Open finals to Djokovic, and now this Daily Mail columnist, Joseph Buchdahl, renowed author of 'Squares and Sharps, Suckers & Sharks: Science, Psychology and Philosophy of Gambling' fame, will have a greater insight on medical exemptions, than say the Independent Medical Exemption Review Panel' (IMERP), a group of highly qualified medical professionals, with expertise in cardiology, sports medicine and immunology.

Australian PM getting involved now saying Jock will have to adhere to guidelines and show evidence he is, just like anyone coming into Australia

The Australian prime minister, Scott Morrison, says Novak Djokovic "must provide acceptable proof that he cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons" after being given an exemption to compete in Melbourne. “If that evidence is insufficient, then he won’t be treated any different to anyone else and will be on the next plane home – there should be no special rules for Novak Djokovic,” Morrison said in Canberra.
