The Munster Rugby Thread 2019/20

I thought Munster had already qualified for it ?
Nope, probably need at least 7th or above.

Munster are only 3 points ahead of that position. Top 8 and 1 from each of the regional groups.

As the Welsh are shit, they'll all probably finish in the bottom half of the table and one will get through under the regional groups rule.

So if Munster finish 8th, likely not to qualify.
Current 6th, 3 points ahead of Benetton and only 4 points ahead of sharks, who have 2 games in hand.
Munster's last 2 games are away in SA, so getting a result will be a major challenge

Qualification is a long way from assured right now

Yes - If we could get 15 pts from the next 3 home URC games then we have a good chance but getting anything in S Africa will be tough especially as we have to got there for the CC on 1st April also. Avoiding injuries now will be crucial.

I'd say 15 points would have Munster home and dry. Benetton aren't strong away from home, and one of the 3 is Vs Glasgow who are only 2 points ahead

Despite struggling to get to watch any of the matches, I'm finding the URC infinitely more interesting this year. I think the big change the SA teams have brought is a sense that Irish teams are no longer automatically the top dogs. It's a long way from guaranteed that Munster will make the champions cup, so a good bit of jeopardy

Munster are 6th on 37 points, above them Glasgow (39), Bulls (40), Ulster (43), Stormers (45) and Leinster (61). Fair dues to Leinster for being so far ahead of the pack, won 13/13 with 9 bonus points. Munster have played 13, Stormers, Ulster, Glasgow have only played 12 and Sharks on 33 points, have only played 11.

Munster's remaining matches are Ospreys (H), Scarlets (H), Glasgow (H), Stormers (A), Sharks (A)

There's a bunch of notable matches coming up, Sharks vs Stormers, if Sharks win, Munster will be at least level in points, but Sharks will still have a game in hand. Glasgow play Ulster on the 17th. Bulls play Stormers, both will take points off the others, which is good for Munster.

Ulster then have to head to Sharks the weekend after, on the same day Ireland are playing Italy, when presumably a bunch of Ulster's best players will be involved. Glasgow have to play Lions that weekend too, at altitude, in heat, missing their internationals.

I'd say the chances of both losing is fairly high.

Stormers look like they have the hardest run-in, they have Sharks, Bulls, Sharks, Leinster (away...), Munster and Benetton.

The Sharks don't exactly have an easy run in either, with Stormers, Lions, Ulster, Stormers, Scarlets, Benetton and Munster, with a quarter final against Munster in the mix.

Those early season losses to Connacht, Cardiff and Dragons are really hurting Munster at this stage in the season. At least they have a comparatively easier run in.

2 Scannells with two spanking new contracts. Sweet mother of God its amateur hour stuff. Where are we going as a club ? Those 2 should have been let go if the ambition of the club was anyway serious. They'd have got signed by some club in the French Federale 2 and fine fine.

On one hand squad players are always needed. If the younger plays the odd URC game and covers 10 as backup to the backup to the backup its fine.

The writing is on the wall for the elder brother. Yes young Ulster lad called into the Irish squad ahead of him. Nucifora will block and signing now saying "there's 3 Irish lads in that position".
