Does Frank Need To Go

I've calmed down about this over the past 24 hours and I suspect others might too. The name didn't exist until 1976. Generally called 'the Park' the facility on the present site was the Athletic Grounds which was located 'down the park.' The Park is long gone. Fords put an end to it. Fords, and many other industries built on the old park, are gone too. Yet we all still refer to the site as 'the Park,' many of us not even knowing that 'the Park' of which our fathers and grandfathers spoke was not 'the Pairc' of Pairc Ui Chaoimh. In some ways, it was the Ui Chaoimh name that actually disrupted the continuity, and none of us ever used the name.

Change is inevitable. I feel for the Chaoimh family, but perhaps their anger might be assuaged by a large statue of the man outside the ground? And perhaps that could come with a nice plaque honouring his contribution to the GAA?

Was Musgrave Park named after the Musgrave family who went on to develop Musgraves cash and carry and subsequently Supervalue and Centra ? If so, maybe it's in their blood/
.

Whoever called it that this was floated the way it was so as the ultimate compromise would be Supervalu Pairc Ui Chaoimh I'd say was on the money. That way everyone's a winner.

We owe the Bank of Ireland 20mil and Croke Park another 10. As I understand it, the stadium has lost 6 million in the last two years. I would hope the fellas having fucking seances with Christy Ring and Padraig O'Caoimh and whoever else have mentioned these figures to them and asked them for ideas on how to get the stadium to wash it's face.

The stadium is built now, and it's a fine stadium. The rights and wrongs of renovating it are now immaterial. The Bank of Ireland won't give a fuck either way, they just want their money back.

Local politicians hopping on the bandwagon are shameless. Martin (a man I'd have decent time for) the worst of them on this occasion. Say what you want about the GAA, say what you want about the Pairc but if it wasn't for them we would have very little in the way of events. At least they had the balls to build something modern and progressive. We've a ramshackle soccer stadium and Munster rugby couldn't give a continental fuck about Cork. The event centre is the greatest joke ever. Where were these local politicians when counties were shouting and roaring about not wanting to play games in Cork and getting their way? Who was speaking for Cork then? The greatest mistake the city ever made was voting no to the directly elected mayor, because with all the talk to come about a United Ireland everything will be about the Dublin-Belfast-Derry corridor and Cork will be lucky to get a new lightbulb.

On the subject of the lack of games being played at the Pairc then you'd be sorely tempted to tell Croke Park to go and whistle for their money if they're going to cave into every dog and pony show cribbing over playing games in Cork. It makes no sense for there to be more games played in Thurles than Cork.

Correct so you're now seeing the PR side of things yes? And starting to see where I am coming from?
You see this as a sign that SuperValu are going to up their offer?

Or that a rake of other suitors are going to jump in a bidding war, eventually pay more and not bother demanding their name be attached to the stadium?

Glad the brakes have been put on "SuperValu Park". Trying to quickly railroad something very controversial and divisive through any committee or board is always a bad sign of leadership and I'm surprised O'Donovan took that option. It's ironically quite Frank Murphy of him.

SuperValu Park me hole.
