I can't believe that any rape victim would ever accept a payoff to stay quiet. All she is doing is lining her pockets while discouraging other women from reporting any incidents that they may be victims of

That's a very naive view to be honest. The book "Catch and Kill" by Ronan Farrow, which is about Harvey Weinstein gives a really good account of how powerful people can make it so that a victim feels they have no other options.

I am not saying that McGregor has done this, but it certainly has been done by powerful rapists.

One reason I can definitely seeing people dropping cases over is the sheer ordeal of it all.

Being dragged through the media, having every detail of your sexual activities probed in public.

Just today, in the comments section of a local Cork news page, Ms. Hand was labled a "slapper".

This is AFTER she won the case like. Go figure.

One reason I can definitely seeing people dropping cases over is the sheer ordeal of it all.

Being dragged through the media, having every detail of your sexual activities probed in public.

Every case has weaknesses and pit falls, look at the Hand case. So when all of this is pointed out to the women in question by her legal team, and when coupled with the social humiliation of every sordid detail being investigated and questioned, then I think it is completely understandable that victims fold

While having huge sympathy for her horrendous ordeal I stopped reading about the case once the detail about her conduct and behaviour over that 48hours came out. Separately altogether to the awful things that happened to the poor girl in the bedroom, no responsible parent of young children should carry on like she or he did for those few days.

In terms of him, the raid on her house.. That says it all…

The American case is no secret at all. If I recall correctly there was some video from the event circulating a while back about it.. or maybe that was one of the other 27659 cases that have emerged over the last 7 years

I assume it isn't the clips that have been in the public domain already.

People will say what happens between consenting adults is their own business as long as they are not exploiting others in their actions . The problem arises with consent and the only person at fault 100% in a rape case is the rapist. Until that is the basis on how victims are treated and supported then many more alleged victims will suffer in silence.
