There was cause to stop it earlier if you ask me, but I think the ref timed it well - every shot that was landing on Khan was making him do the chicken dance, nothing meaningful being thrown by him in the last round or two….to his credit, he has great heart and would have continued….but, it doesn’t take big knockouts to cause long term damage & fighters need to be protected from themselves and that’s where ref/corner comes in (says I who was happy to fight on once when my eyes were almost rolled back in my head and my legs were doing the hucklebuck, had a good chuckle with ref on that afterwards )
