Took my chance to do the Midleton - Youghal greenway on the bike earlier. It kicks off at the train station in Midleton, plenty of free parking, handy out. There was a lot of people using it, lots of families, walkers, runners, and a scattering of cyclists. After weaving my way through a couple of kms of them it eases out but then each time you come into the next ‘station’ the crowds increase again either side of it.
It’s 23km to Youghal and then another 2km into the town. I was after a coffee and ended all the way in at the priory by the time I could get one. Not sure if the town hasn’t reacted to the new opportunity for customers on that side yet or whether it was the bank holiday but there was nothing open, and doesn’t even seem to be places setting up at the start/end of the greenway there.
Enjoyed the ride but I won’t be back.. it must be the most monotonous route imaginable, I know train lines are planned to be simple routes but this is a straight line from one end to the other and hardly waivers up or down either. The whole thing felt like a really good cycling simulator by the end!
I think I’d park in Tivoli/Glounthaune next time and start there, head for Midleton and head out to maybe Killeagh and back again for a bit more variety
