Cork Hurlers - Part 2

O'Donoghue and O'Leary are now 2 experienced corner backs. Why would you want to move either of them and replace them with inexperienced and untried new lads ?
The present corner backs are settled and good in their positions. All the other lines are unsettled so it is good to know we have 2 settled backs and we just need a fullback !!!!
And then work on the other lines.

A goalie, a full-back & 2 wing-backs is enough change for one year.

Dunmore

The point is that O'Donoghue and O'Leary are good in a couple of these other lines and they play there with their clubs but have never been tried there with Cork. Also if one of those corner backs get injured no cover will have been developed to take their place. Dromtarriffes Conor O'Callaghan is on the panel, what the he'll is he doing there when a defender among others such as James O'Flynn is a far better player and hasn't a hope of game time. O'Callaghan is a better footballer and would be far better off with them for everyones sake. This is why Kingston and Meyler failed as managers and this is why Ryan and Co have to think outside the box and develop adaptability, no signs yet though!

Pooman

At least you are suggesting a change of full-back which I agree but Sean Donoghue was more at fault for Galway's 2nd goal last summer than Patrick Collins. Collins is as good as what's in the County, I for one will be surprised if he's dropped. The back up who was his brother Ger needs to be playing in goal for his club throughout and that isn't the case so Gavin Connolly should replace him and hopefully Eoin Davis will be No. 3 for development and training purposes. Ger Millerick has been ready made for wing-back but Cork have refused to play him there, with him and Joyce in the half-back line that line is as settled as the full-back line with the aforementioned 2 corner-backs.

Yes. Alan played last season with a recovered dislocated shoulder. Played the county and club season with shoulder wrapped up every game. Got surgery on it last week. Will be out for at least 6 months in recovery.

Why was surgery so late?
Blackrock were knocked out of championship mid October. If this was a recurring problem with surgery planned, having surgery over two months later has effectively ended his inter county season next year.
Late October would have given him a fighting chance to make it back for April or May.

He will be a huge loss as he’s one of the few forwards that bring physicality up front along with Harnedy.

He would indeed be a huge loss, six months seems an extraordinarily long time for recovery from a shoulder injury.
