Cork Footballers

Would they? If Clon merited that representation on the senior side it's hard to imagine anyone living with them at club level.
Fair point but all of those 6/7 are in defensive positions. From what I saw of Clon this year they’re badly lacking in their forwards, 3/4 of their forwards would struggle to make other senior teams. Hence why they’re not dominating.

The 2 Whites, Clancy and Liam Donovan would be starters for me. Shanley and Grimes I wouldn’t be as sure of. Lowney impressed me from what I saw this year, but I rarely noticed him previously so the jury is out there also.

Anyway as others have said if guys aren’t interested that’s fair enough, they need to move on without them.

Still lot of players missing today Nathan Walsh, Maurice Shanley, Liam O Donovan, Sean Meehan, Brian Hartnett, Fionn Herlihy, Cathail O Mahony , Killian O Hanlon, Eanna O Hanlon, Diarmuid Phelan, Daniel O Mahony, Sean White, Mark White, Ian Maguire, Stephen Sherlock ...i wonder are Bill Hennessy and Conor O Callaghan on the panel ?
I'm not sure if we're missing as many you think.

Maguire and Meehan the obvious two. Not to many obvious candidates out of that.
I wish we could say that was an experimental Cork team but that is as good as we got.

A lot of those players aren't on the panel or in the same league as what's there already.

The assumption most people on the thread seem to make is that we have the players that can compete with the likes of Kerry, Dublin, Tyrone etc - but we get nowhere because our management is rubbish.

By the time 2022 is finished, we may have to revisit that assumption...

Ahh stop now ffs, it was an experimental cork team and that’s a fact, there are players who will come back in and there were fellas who played yesterday who won’t play again this year. We are way off Kerry’s level especially when they play an almost full strength team but there are fellas who will come into the team and the squad to make it stronger, we will be competitive in division 2, thats
Our level

i dont believe that, what most people believe is we have the potential to be much better then what we have been, if you achieve that consistently then you can look at competing with the top teams, as others have pointed out we played brilliant football for a lot of 2019 which had us set up to develop further and unfortunately we regressed badly. The standard in division 2 is by its nature lower then division 1 and I would be confident of cork being comfortable in that division with all hands on deck, unfortunately due to the barrs good run and more injuries we are down some really good players and at digging into a squad with a lot of younger inexperienced players which isn’t ideal.
I believe that cork are on the same level as clare, Offaly, Roscommon for example and think we will be competitive in that division, I also believe we are wAy off currently division 1 teams but can get there and get there relatively quickly if things go right but that remains to be seen. If the spirit is right in the squad number 1 and it simply hasn’t been for a while now we will be ok in division 2 and push for promotion

We don’t have the man markers at the back for a start. We are shoehorning half backs into man marking top class forwards and they just aren’t comfortable in that role and no wonder because it’s a hugely specialist role to man mark.

The best teams have generally drifted away from big sweeper systems. They’ll get set in defensive formations as play develops but generally they go man to man now. Tyrone found success in it and also by being more direct in their play.

We are physically miles off the likes of Kerry. Cork players struggled hugely in contact yesterday. And we need to start putting footballers in the half forward line who can both deliver and score.

It’s early days, the panel is too big to be functional right now and lots of them are nowhere near this standard and won’t ever be. Patience is required but we need to address the above issues.
