Cork Footballers

Cork have everything going for them . Playing at home on a pitch where they train week in , week out. But we all know Script a mile out. Cork will start running down channels heads down with McGuinness holding out the Parking signal for them to get bottled up unless Cleary and the Galway Mercenary have a plan. Everything will go through Hurley and he refuses point blank to pass the ball.
Make Midfield a warzone
Target McHugh and Gallan.

Take hurley off the frees but you can't drop your only forward that looks likely to score from open play, I'd drop jones or powter both not playing hectic at the moment.
I'd think a forward line of
Walsh Corbett Powter
Sherlock Hurley Jones
Would cause Donegal a good few issues..Powter on Mogan for the full 70 is an absolute must

Is training and played a few minutes in a challenge but still far too risky to play him yet.
Needs to be given plenty of time.
My fear is that Cork will throw him in and he gets injured again.
He was at a low ebb for a while after the last injury as you can imagine.
He played a challenge game 4 weeks ago and was training for about 5 weeks prior to that its time to start introducing him off the bench for at least 10 min this weekend if all ok give him 20 plus against Tyrone and then see where we are at with him.
Powter needs to go back to half back line he not a forward.Meehan needs to start also.

I dont agree with above, I think Cork have a great chance of winning this game....1st half in the league game cork at times played really well and cut through Donegal and could have had a few goals....Dont write off cork....I will post here again on Tuesday accepting praise for my prediction of a 2 point cork win.
This optimistic view - the hope - sits better than me. The best Cork football teams we've had over the years have been the ones, to borrow a quote: "that was clubbed many times into insensibility, but each time on returning to consciousness took up the fight anew".

We've won plenty times we were up against it. The opportunity is there for a right go off Donegal. Yeah they're very good, but we'll see on Saturday who comes out of it with a win.

Lads - I was speaking with an Ulster man today who is heavily involved with football in his own county and has played IC in the past. I asked his opinion on Cork v Donegal. He said two things :- 1. Cork will be a much bigger team physically than Donegal 2. Cork will pose them lots of problems by running at them and will create goal chances I thought it was interesting to hear - this chap has seen Cork live in the league this year and he sees great potential. I hope he is right

I find it hard to see things panning out like that, tbh. Take 2 - Cork caused Kery plenty of problems in the first twenty-five minutes by moving the ball quickly, but once Kerry adjusted their defensive shdie by pulling their HB line deeper, Cork struggled to create chances. I expect Donegal to set up like that from the word go, and imo it is difficult to see Cork carving out many goal chances against them.

Correct but once Kerry had their purple patch in the last 10 mins of first half Cleary panicked and dropped Powter back as a sweeper which in turn effected our threat/playing making and scoring opportunities.
Bare in mind we nearly snuck a goal at the end too so if we are more clinical against Donegal I’d have worries.

We could learn something from the hurlers against Limerick - f*ck the sweeper system out the window and play 15 v 15 like we did against Kerry too.

There’s been a debate the past week or so about Powter’s role, it was evident in the first 25 mins against Kerry what he can do and what his role is. Get the ball and run create chances and scoring opportunities.

Cork were dire against Donegal in the league, but it was the first game, and a bleak, blustery day in ballybofey. It was a tough watch, and in the second half looked like Cork didn’t want to be there. They have improved by leaps and bounds since then, and in their home venue, they have to bring the fight to donegal. They drew with Armagh in a high scoring league game, and have the capability to spring an upset!

Cleary panicked
There's zero evidence of panic. A considered decision was made, almost certainly one of a number of pre-planned options. And it was a very reasonable decision in the circumstances of the game. It may also have been reasonable not to make that decision, and perhaps make a different decision instead.

Whether the outcome would have been better or worse if different decisions were made is unknown, but of course fine to speculate about - and I read with genuine interest.
