Cork Footballers

Kevin Walsh is an interesting choice as Cork coach. He will certainly tighten up the defence - badly needed - not sure if he will do much for the forwards. That seems to have been his track record elsewhere.
Having said that, Cork's scoring difference over recent years has been poor - spoilt by our leaky defence. The forwards have been able to score as much as opposing teams.

Might be a bit late then if they lose to the likes of Meath,Kildare And Dublin 3 tough opening games.
First game v Meath will be massive for our league aspirations, whether that is to challenge or survive.

Meath won a error laden game last year, Looking forward to see how Colm O' Rourke's straight talking transfers into management dealing with young players. Cork please god will be in a much better position panel wise once February comes, having a back line with Shanley, Meehan, Powter & O' Mahony available for selection would be massive, as well as Killian O' Hanlon back in the mix in the midfield area, if Brian Hayes commits then this is a perfect opportunity to see what he offers at this level.

Also a look at another keeper to challenge Martin , in prior McGrath cup games should be a priority, a few good young keepers have had good club campaigns. Kilshannig's Gavin Creedon being one who certainly has distance in his locker, whether his comfortable going shorter needs to be viewed.

I would be slightly concerned about Kevin Walsh's previous coaching style with Galway but lets see what he brings before judgment is cast. Cleary steadied the ship when given the reins, progress now required, alot of the u20 team in 2019 in the current panel need to drive this team on now.

Good post!

Three defenders out of O'Donovan, Shanley, O'Mahony and Meehan should improve the defence significantly. If Sean Powter is also selected in defence all four won't start as Kevin O'Donovan, Rory Maguire, John Cooper, Mattie Taylor, Kevin Flahive and Nathan Walsh will also be in the shout for a starting place. I believe with those defenders free of injuries an improved rearguard should allow the management to release Sean Powter to a more attacking role like centre-forward. I believe Cork are lacking in this department, there are enough good inside forwards but the attack needs a strong linchpin to lead the attack.
