Bus Connects Plan

However, TD Thomas Gould has spoken out about the plan being "unworkable" due to the impact it would have on some of the busiest roads on the Northside in Cork city, as he says it would cause "traffic chaos."
This includes the proposal to ban through traffic on both Cathedral road and Old Youghal road. I raised this with the NTA today - these are two of the busiest roads on the Northside and there will be traffic chaos with this plan," TD Gould commented.

I am very confident that Tommy Gould does not even know what a bus is never mind even actually understanding the proposal to increase public transport use to stop the traffic congestion that he moans about.

The roads are busy because the public transport option is currently stuck in traffic and need to be improved.

We really do elect some morons at times and they have to say something about everything to get attention I suppose.

If they're going to ban private traffic on Cathedral Road and OYR then Gould is right, it would be a crazy move. And it will have an adverse knock-on effect on nearby roads and neighbourhoods. There'll be traffic chaos on smaller twistier roads designed and maintained for much smaller traffic flows. Be interesting to see how well these side roads stand up to the extra wear and tear. Wonder if the Irish Water infrastructure running under some of these side roads was factored into any of the decision making at all.

Traffic an now come up penrose quay and turn right up Brian Boru st and head up summerhill north,
Cuts out the need to go to patricks quay up bridge st and along mccurtain st,

The council were told about that many years ago. Traffic from southside coming over Collins and DeValera bridges had to go up as far as Harleys Street and across McCurtain Street because there was no right turn at the top of Mahony's Avenue. But then Harleys Street was closed (a few years ago never to reopen to traffic) and it necessitated going up to Bridge Street - all extra time, extra traffic, more fossil fuels used. It's taken the planners well over a decade to getting around to sorting this mess out. McCurtain Street itself (which used be two way and thriving) we were told was impossible to make two-way with just a single lane going west, or even a bus lane. But instead they put down footpath extensions.

Whoever the planner is for the city is most likely someone who never drove around the city centre, because they've made an absolute mess of it. People coming in from north of the city onto Leitrim Street always complained they could see exactly where they wanted to go (Patrick Street), but had to go on a world tour to get there.

McCurtain St is thriving and is going back to 2 way traffic

Is that the same infrastructure that SF/IRA caused so much trouble about when Irish Water attempted to work on a few years ago ?

That then is the same Irish Water that SF/IRA were so vocal about being even in existence, it is a pity that people are not paying for their use of water because those same issues you mentioned above with infrastructure could actually be repaired, as Irish Water would have the financial means to do it and they would be answerable to us their consumers.

But your lot would not have that.

They're calling Gardiners Hill a "quietway" route for Cyclists. Essentially this means that as traffic volumes are low, there is no need for a cycle lane as cyclists can share the road with the low volume of traffic.
They are proposing removing 159 on street parking spaces on the new bus connects corridor from Tinkers Cross to the City Centre and "land take" from 17 properties, mainly on Wellington Road.

Public consultation is now open.
