All this just feels like the Syrian war all over again if I'm honest. Nobody knows whats actually going on the ground over there and our news sources are so swayed towards one side. I think I'm just going to tune out until the actual war has ended if that makes sense.

In the Syrian war the rebels had no chance against the Russians who could kill them at will and from a distance with bombs and artillery with little or no loss to themselves In the Ukraine the Russians are against a superior fighting force who are exposing them as a military sham and inflicting serious losses on them

Wagner forces sent to die in Bakhmut: ISW​

The conflict between Russian Ministry of Defence and Wagner Group financier Yevgeny Prigozhin has likely reached a climax as thousands of fighters have died fighting in Bakhmut.

According to the Institute for Study of War (ISW) analysis, the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) is “currently prioritizing eliminating Wagner on the battlefields in Bakhmut” which it concludes is slowing its advance in the area.
It said the conflict began when Prigozhin ran a “relentless defamation” campaign against senior figures in the Russian military, including Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu and Chief of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov.
Now that the group has failed to show progress it is believed Russian MoD officials are “seizing the opportunity to deliberately expend both elite and convict Wagner forces in Bakhmut in an effort to weaken Prigozhin and derail his ambitions for greater influence in the Kremlin.”

Now if only the Ukrainians released figures of losses we would have something to compare the Russian losses to. Why or why don't they release them?

Maybe its because they started out severely on the back foot and have to use absolutely everything at their disposal to protect themselves against their unprovoked war thirsty neighbour intent on decimating their country and people?

Eastern Bakhmut has already been taken, not news but the west desperately want to portray this as a David and Goliath situation, Ukraine is losing a lot of soldiers but because they are not allowed tell how many are lost nobody knows. They give details on Russian losses but none on their own.

Ukraine should be wary of being drawn into an attritional war with Russia, However in this type of war defenders will inflict disproportionate casualties on the attackers especially if the attackers apply WWI attack tactics. The Ukrainian military must have decided that this advantage was so favourable to them in Bahkmut that they would use this city of limited strategeic to degrade the Russian army and the Russians keep pushing men into the meatgrinder..

according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence they are continuing to fight there as the Russians have been forced to commit more experienced soldiers to the battle and it is allowing them to deplete those guys now which will help with their own spring offensive

According to Prigozhin has troops have been thrown to the lions as they were starved of the weapons they needed and were never sent so there must be some truth to this. Russia taking massive Wagner losses there but gaining territory seems to be a result for Putin politically

Who knows, the only constant seems to be that there is a battle front and the Russians just keep storming it with wave after wave and taking massive losses
