James- Percival Everett. Really interesting read. The story of Huck Finn told from the perspective of Jim. Reminded me of ' the underground railway'.

'We'll prescribe you a cat'- Syou Ishida. It was alright. Perhaps a step too far into whimsy for me.

Just started ' What you are looking for is in the Library ' by Michiko Aoyama.

Translated from Japanese to English. An interesting/ unusual format methinks from what I've read. Holding my interest so far.?

say nothing -patrick radden keefe

the book the tv show is based on about the price sisters.

i only came across it by chance at the library. it’s absolutely brilliant.

stonewall - david carter

documents the stonewall riots and the ghey revolution. only a few pages in but it’s good.

We solve Murders- Richard Osman. Deeply silly, but a fun read. The central relationship of the two main characters didn't work at all for me, and it would have been easy to fix so that annoyed me. Very easy reading though. I have no doubt it will be as popular as the Tuesday Murder Club books

The Mistletoe Murders and other stories- PD James. Absolute perfection. 4 short stories, each one a murder mystery. Not a word out of place.

One of the very best books I've ever read. Reads like a novel, and you're left guessing at the outcome until the very end.
Will read Some People need Killing after.
This is very good too. Have two chapters left. What Duerte did was horrific, but don't think the author set the stage at all about how a man like him, who promised to kill Drug dealers and Drug Addicts could get elected in the first place.

Are the Philippines a drug war zone ruled by ruthless cartels and street gangs? I don't know and I'm nearly finished the book (not justifying what was done, but trying to understand it) (I'll look it up after I finish the book btw)

Agree on Some People Need Killing. She sets out the Horrific Situation in Chapter 1 and it remains more or less uniformly Horrific throughout with no bit of perspective

The early stuff about Phillipino History and Culture was fascinating in fairness

Yeah the only thing I remember about the drug users/addicts is a statistic she mentioned about the Philippines having half the global average.

But you're left wondering;

A)is that statistic meaningful/accurate

B) why would a country elect someone who vowed to kill a certain part of the population?

And the only reason logic dictates is people must be absolutely sick of the effects the drug dealers, drug addicts and drug users are having on the community.

Read the second last chapter earlier and still nothing.

Also, having kill squads that go out and kill addicts/users who are surrendering and no threat to life is a crime against humanity. And telling them they only get paid for kills.

Christ almighty, that's some sick sick shit.

This isn't killing Escobar or anything like it. It's killing members of the community who should be helped not shunned.

I don't know yet but I hope Duerte is in jail for what he did. I'd doubt it mind.
