I'm about half way through;

Some People Need Killing, by Patricia Evangelista.
Thanks for that, sounds right up my street.

Nearly finished the Hitler book, and have this lined up next.

Will read Some People need Killing after.

A Doctor's Sword.jpg

Great read about the survival of the human spirit.

Dr. A. McCarthy came from McCarthy's bar in Castletownbere, did medicine in UCC and joined the British army as a medic. He was in Dunkirk during WW2 and was sent east and captured by the Japanese. He spent years in various concentration camps where he was beaten, tortured and starved, ending up in a torpedoed ship and captured again to be placed in a camp in Nagasaki. He was there when the bomb was dropped and survived to be handed the sword belonging to the commandant. He made it back to Castletownbere to McCarthy's bar where the sword still is.

Not a book of course, a 4 times a year journal. 8 euro a copy on the stands but last January I saw an online offer of 4 issues for 8 euro inc. postage. There's usually only one article an issue I like and the rest are a bit meh. Serious research done by people and published, but do I really want to know about a bunch of archeologists digging in a peat bog in the midlands? The recent copy, because of the cover, I was looking forward to reading. Carrigaphooka castle, just outside Macroom, on the Ballyvourney road. I've never been to it, it's on private land but apparently the owners will give the key to the door if you seem genuine. I'll have to do that someday, imagine having a castle, standing on a rock, to yourself for a while. Anyhow, rather than an article it just gets a few paragraphs in the journal.

In the Jack Reacher assassin type mode. Bubblegum for the mind but surprisingly entertaining if it's your thing. Almost a 6/10. A holiday or filler between type of book.
