Drop-d.ie presents its second in a new series of gigs and clubnights around the country, starting with alt-rock trio Versives, noise crew Mersk and shoegaze newcomers Agitate the Gravel, as well as Drop-d DJs, live at the Quad on March 3rd!
VERSIVES:
Versives are Alan Matthews, Kevin J. Power and Alex Millar. The band formed in 2007 and since then have been developing and refining their sound, working with producer Ciaran O’ Shea on a series of EPs including the ‘The Veils’ and ‘We Are Friends With You‘.
Over the last year the band featured on the IMRO Showcase Tour, 2FM Live Sessions, toured nationally and received extensive radio play for their EPs and their debut single ‘Kicking Up A Brand New Storm‘. The single is taken from the forthcoming debut album ‘Prussian Blushes‘ which was recorded between June and September of 2010.
MERSK:
Mersk was formed as a collective in 2008 to explore the space between noise/drone and musicality. Each Mersk performance is an improvised and evolving interplay of dark dronescapes, distorted harmonic overlays, and haunted fragments of instrumentation.
An ongoing monthly residency in An Realt Dearg in Cork City allows for constant sonic experimentation and renewal, and new performers/collaborators (both sound and visual) are always welcome (please contact merskcollective@gmail.com for more info). Members of Mersk also perform as Deadlands (desert-drift americana minimalism) and Yalta (pure-drone explorations).

"Formed in early 2010 by way of our pure inability to socialise on any respectable level, ATG’s interest lies in rock style, shoe-gaze, dense, not-quite-pop riffery. Our first rehearsal in nutshell: one of us was loud, one was quiet, one was funny and one was late. That pretty much sets the tone I think."
