Training Run Times

Finished seven miles today and probably could have hit eight. Foot numbness a couple of times but brief spells of walking seems to calm it down. So Cork Half back on the horizon if I add an extra mile a week over the next six weeks. If not, 10k is definitely a goer. Anyone else thinking of the June bank holiday weekend?

Nice going MarkY, good to see you stretching it out again. I had the same run Sat morning in the sunshine.. gloroius morning for it, went out to do 10km but carried on as I was enjoying it. Unfortunately the youngfella had a match so I had to cut it at that. 11.25km @ 5.06 pace

That’s a big run JimmY, nice work

BTW - I presume there’s a reason the post stopped suddenly when you hit the hallowed turf of Noel Murphy’s?! Nollaig outside in his wife beater and shorts hailing you in?

This thing of heading down to the park run on Saturdays and then running a 2nd loop of it seems to be suiting me. I enjoy the comeraderie of the run with others and then run it again on my own. I’m sure the more experienced lads wouldn’t buy the positive split and stop in the middle but I’m enjoying it for now!

This morning I wasn’t feeling great at the start and also hadn’t realised it was the week with the pacers, lovely weather though. I set off with the 24 min pacer with my eye on 10km pace as opposed to 5km, after about 1.5km I realised I was holding myself back staying with the pacer and I could see the 23min guy ahead so I pulled ahead. Ended up running the rest of the 5km just back from the 23 min guy and finished for a PB of 23.09 on the watch.

Then straight out the back of the finish area and ran the other 2 laps alone, still passing people out on the course. Finished for a big best of 47.33 but there was about 2 minutes of down time between the end of the 5km and starting again so I know it wouldn’t be counted by any serious runner!

Looking at my splits I ran every km under 5 mins and all of the first 5km at 4.35-4.40 pace so hoping my body is realising there’s a faster pace I can maintain there

That time of year again lads, My left foot was very sore after yesterdays run, Went to hospital this morning and they did x ray
and I have a stress fracture mid foot and a chip in the ankle bone, Have to decide if i have the desire to go back when healed and concentrate
on the easier, shorter stuff, I knew for weeks there was some issue there but generally after half a mile it would loosen out and be fine,

Ah Jesus JimmY.. you're not having much luck

Ive had 2 stress fractures in my right shin over the years from sports. The last one took me about 6/8 weeks in a boot and I was back going again. I know you are pushing for the marathon and this is probably the end of that again now

Come join me and the 10km fun crew when you're back.. let the other lads to the really lengthy stuff!
