Training Run Times

Jaysus, TimeO that was a bit of a dose lad. I see the dog is getting the old 0.8kms in again every evening. Best of luck with the comeback. Doubt I'll be joining you in Rotterdam though, or the T in Boston for that matter.
The poor dog can’t wait for me to go back running again 😂

Week 1 of HM training complete, only 2 sessions as opposed to 3 unfortunately, Thursday fell foul to work and training the kids

I kept Tuesday to 5km as I was wary of the fatigue from the tri on Saturday. Did 5 sets of 600m at slow pace then 400m at pace. The 400m sections were just under 4 min pace

Today I did 13km at slow pace. I kept an eye on the HR and 130bpm is too low so I kept it at 140bpm instead which meant I was bang on really comfortable pace, could hold a conversation no problem right to the end. I’ve never done a run like this before, I could have run on no prob, no breathing heavy or looking for the end. It was really windy conditions so I’d say the pace will be quicker next weekend as running into it was hard going

Did the first threshold session tonight, realising it will be a bit trial and error for a while until I find my feel and get a better handle on pacing, but I enjoyed it

I decided I’d make threshold pace 5:05/km so set off to do 4 mins of 5:05 followed by 1 minute slow x 8 reps

My watch obviously needs a bit to work out what pace you are at so I found myself starting out too fast at 4:45 pace and then easing it back a little, but after a few of them I started to get the feel for what 5:00 pace felt like and got better at keeping it at that. As El G said the first few were ok, didn’t really need the break, and then it started to get tougher. By the 6th I was happy there was only 2 left and by the last I was glad it was done.

I ended up covering 7.85km in the 40 mins, I could have got 2 more in to make it 50 mins if I had time but it would have hurt, 2 more for 60 mins and I’d have been ready to puke which would suggest that the pace was about right.

It is definitely more enjoyable varying the pace and working with time instead of just running at the same pace km after km, and I can see how you’d make progress

I’ve got a tight sensation like shin splints in my right shin, I suppose various things are being pushed harder than they would have been

Great stuff, these sessions will see great results, it helps endurance and cardio, mind that injury,

4k handicap challenge tonight, Submitted an estimated time of 21.30, The handicap saw me run with another lad, Off we went and i knew after half a mile we were very fast, 1st mile 7.25 pace,
Turned at 1.25 mile mark and headed for. home, 2nd mile 7.57 pace, My partner kicked on, I just wanted it to end, last half mile was a lung buster, finished in 20.35,
Very happy with that,

Fair play, good distance to lash into the first few kms and then hang on.. I minute under your estimated time won’t go down well next time!
