Training Run Times

Sept 9th today. I've last run on 08th Jan

Oestitis Pubis is a bitch.

Its a groin pain right on the pubic bone. Very sore. I had a bit if a hamstring issue last Oct and got treatment but kept going and it resulted in this nonsense.

It's definetly improved but i still have no real timetable for return.

Jan was wiped with it.
Feb i had a minor surgery to remove a varicose vein so that wiped Feb and March
Started back in the pool Apil, May and June. Got some decent milage in there and swam the rebel plunge and the Lee swim in early July. Got sick in July (bad dose of a cough which took about 8 weeks and two courses of antibiotics to shift)

Dropped the swimming for Aug in favour of some heavy Duty rehab to get back running.

Squats, RDLs etc anything to load up the hammers and adductors.

I'm bloody sick of the physio at this point. Hopefully I'll get back this year

Keep the faith, I had Ostitis Pubis two years ago, Id be sore first 5 minutes of a run but it would loosen out, But all i was doing was aggravating it,

A friend of mine picked up some salt tablets in the edge recently, He says he finds them good mid run to offset sweating,
Have any of ye used similar?

Do you get cramp? i take them swimming because my calves cramp when i don't, i used to take them when i was training for Ironman because you'd be out for hours on end

But if you don't get hit with cramp probably no need till you're back at 90min or 2hr long runs.

Having said that they're no harm at all and fairly cheap

I dont get cramp but last few runs have seen me sweat more than usual, If i was a woman id say it was the menopause,

Lads, I have a bit of time on my hands today, so I'm thinking a "Where are you now" kinda post might be on. I'm going to say there's about 10 or 12 regular posters here, most have been running and posting for years and then we have Honky and Jimmy from about two years ago. It seems to me that a pile of the auld and auldish lads are struggling with injuries. I'm thinking Smurf, Terrier, Me, PR, Timeout and another couple, Marky, Elwood?? Anyway, it's a bit fooking depressing but I'm trying to make some sense of it and see what the future might hold. I'm 59 now, about 17 years running and I suppose my peak was about 6 years ago in terms of 10k and HM pbs. Marathon was a small bit later but it was always lagging behind the Half in any case. Once I started to slow a little, as I say, about 5 years ago the Half times went from 81 to 82, 83 mins. Last year, I got back to running and managed three HMs under 90 mins. I was fairly happy with that, though not entirely. I was really hoping to get back nearer 84.xx. Now, it seems that's not going to happen and I'd very happily settle for another sub 90mins. As for the 42.2k, I have no plans to tackle one anytime soon. The issues since about 2021 have been hip, knees and now hip/glute again. I've just started back with physio and I'm hopeful this will be sorted. I'd say it'll be next year though before I'm in any shape at all tbh. I'll be 60 then and you'd begin to wonder.... IF I get fit again, I'll be happy to stick with 10k and at a stretch Half marathon stuff. Times will be targeted if and when. What about the rest of ye? Crocked? Half-crocked? Coming back? On the treatment table? Share away, lads.
Well C, I’m like oasis, making a comeback but possibly will fall out with my body again before any major event.

I’ve been injured on and off since 2020 to be honest. Try to make a comeback now and again only to break down. Finally diagnosed the problem after 3.5 years and with treatment (and actually doing the fucking exercises the physio laid out for once.. who knew ?) I’m beginning to get some consistency again. I’ll never again be the mid to mid front pack runner I tried to be before , but I’m happy to run, happy to get out with the group again and I even ran a bit of a race last week. Like yourself I’ve probably hung up the 42.2 shoes, I’d like to think at some stage I’ll tackle a half again but for now, with no structured training I’m happy to run 10k and below, sometimes with pain, sometimes without.

Why is sweating an issue Jimmy?

I sweat fairly heavily when I exercise, never really considered it a problem before TBH. Its a dose afterwards when you are finished your run and still no point having a shower 30 mins later, while the wet running top has now cooled and gone cold

I suppose it shouldnt really be an issue but i wonder is it a sign that what i was capable of a year ago is now that much harder
and i am pushing myself harder to maintain my level?
