Training Run Times

Great stuff Guapo - fair dues for going in the budgie smugglers, you are a tough bastard. As a runner, you'd have far less condition on you than the standard OW swimmer. I had a cut off of 2k myself yesterday out at the lake - but in the wetsuit.

Interesting what you say about the pre-race - you're dead right, there's no nerves at all, people are super-chilled. It's just a different vibe in the OW swimming. There's not even that much focus on the winners of the categories - sometimes at the Lee swim you think the prize side of things is a pain in the ass for them, they give it so little publicity.

Agree also on the "2 weeks to get swim fit". I could train for decade and still not get much faster than the two weeks would give me.

Are you doing the Lee Swim? Opposite direction under De Valera bridge AGAINST the funnelling tide like...

Dunmanway 10k

I’ve run it before but couldn’t really remember it. Today I realised why. My subconscious must have blocked it out as it was something that might possibly kill me ?

Hills. Lots and lots of hills followed by the worst fawking hill, conveniently located at around 600m from the end.

Add in the laser precision of the relentless sun it wasn’t my finest day. Although I finished 7th in my new age category. And yes, I met another guy who was 79. Bad day for me but I beat him. This time.

Beautiful location though and really well organised and supported. I’ll definitely be back next year.
Marky, you are a serious operator - all of that injury, recovery, setback, recovery etc. but you kept at it and never gave up. Great to see you getting consecutive race spins under your belt. LOL, even Cheptegei would have trouble with hills of the Dunmanway 10k so you did well kid.

I dunno to be honest. i have a number and the plan was to do the two but i have a load of in law relations landing in from Oz sometime around then, i reckon I'd be shot.

It'll be tim tams and cups of tea instead more than likely

Yerra rock down to North Mall for the wave start and the whole thing is done in an hour - the Ozzies will love the spectacle. It'd be a nice double for your summer with the running kiboshed. The craic is always mighty in the lineup and it's a massive buzz to bate down through the city.

PM me if you want me to pick up your number in the morning - myself and the young lad will be doing it either way.

Sound man, that would work except the chances if me being in a north cork backwater at the time are about 90%

Might do GADD in sept instead, 2 laps of Garbish is my favourite one of these. Warm water and a night away

But, Hope to be back running by then so not sure

Our club did a lovely 5k handicap race last night, You submit your target time and runners go off on staggered basis,
Slowest first, Theory is everybody should finish in a blanket finish, Doesnt always happen but still great fun,
I did my own thing 2.80 miles @ 8.35 pace, ideally need to slow it a bit and build the miles,

Is that Monday session recorded?
I'll need to study it.

Though I'd imagine the Tuesday session is intrinsically linked to it.

I am up to 3 miles now. adding .25 to each run, Breathless by the finish but that will all come in time,
Good man JimmY, keep her lit.. there must be some youngwan in the group you can scamper after?!

I’m not doing great myself, time has been against me so I’m not getting out during the week at all. Had a 10km last Sat and Sun, and 11km this Sunday, that’s been about average for the last 4-5 weeks I’d say. Work will remain busy but kids sports end this weekend so it should get the me the bit of time I need to crank up the summer schedule
