The Official Athletics Thread

Jaysus, more good news for GST. Fred Kerley is after getting arrested in Miami for hitting his oul’ doll a slap.
Both he and she are now scratched from the weekend.

Great interviews - real honesty and understanding of where they are in the order and in the season. Granted, they both ran well so the interviews are that bit more upbeat.
People talk about sports stars being role models - well, these two certainly meet that requirement.
LOL at Adeleke’s accent - no mid-Atlantic twang for her anyway. You can imagine the craic when she goes into a shop or a restaurant in Texas and they hear the big Dublin brogue on a black woman.

Well Guapo, how are we fixed this weekend? Women to make it handy enough, men to be elimintated and a reasonable shot for the mixed?
Yerah I'd be bullshitting more than usual if I said I actually knew. Too many teams not at full strength. Conversely the Irish are (Although lots of the men haven't run much)

I'd be more bullish than you about the mixed. Time table is tight so depends on who they run.

if you make a final you should qualify for Tokyo more or less off top list

Women should feature heavily. Becker and Mawdesley posting away on sessions so they are fit and Mawdesley and Adeleke at least have been in China for the last week or so.

Case in point.

Both the Nigerian and Dominican Republic's entire squads for world relays were refused visas by the Chinese and will now not compete.

GB have withdrawn Jerry Azu, Ami Pipi and Lewis Daley.

USA are a husk of a team.(they are still favourites) mostly C listers. Kenny Bednarek is the star, Elijah Godwin is their biggest 400m name..TT Terry on the women's side.and Irby-Jackson the only women's quarter miler.

Botswana are missing 3 of their olympic quartet.

RTE are smelling blood in the water and medals in the air

They're giving this one the full Peter Collins combover treatment while the Beeb stuck it on iplayer

What a time to be alive.

Thanks to this RTE preview i actually understand the format.

Day 1, Heats top two go to final

Day 2, Round 2 Heats, Teams who didn't qualify go into 3 heats, Top two in each go to Worlds

Final will decide seedings for worlds and they are paying prizes

Based on all this and not knowing who is running for most of the rest of the world I'm going to say Ireland qualify 3 teams for worlds and come home with medals in the women's 4x400m.

These kids grew up dreaming of world relay medals..Now is their time
