The next Government

Who will form the next government

  • Total voters

Yeah, those nasty people in Sinn Fein - the rules and regulations and conditions that make it unfavourable for smaller landlords to be in the market compared to the corporate ones aren't set by SF but by Fine Gael and Fianna Fail. But it's still all Sinn Fein's fault apparently.

Remind me again who is being demonized
+ S.F. want to go much much further if in office.

Nicely ignored as per usual.

Dereliction certainly needs to be tackled. Builders who bring properties from dereliction back into use in the rental market should be given tax breaks. The amount of dereliction around the country with people crying out for acomodation is scandalous.
Why the builder when the Govt. have brought in grants of up to €50k for first time buyers restoring vacant/derelict properties in towns etc?

If renters had the security of knowing that they can't be turfed out of their homes at the whim of their landlord so long as they paid the rent and didn’t break the terms of their lease then this is a positive surely?

Absolutely. Rental security is a given in other jurisdictions. And those that do default on rent payment should be able to be removed from private rentals. The overall cost of borrowing money from the banks is higher because of the attitude of those who think they can get away with not paying for renting a property. They should imho be given time to pay (a few months) but if they're not going to, and are repeat offenders, then they should be removed and put on the public housing list instead and let someone else who is willing to pay the agreed reasonable rent in. It's still the same number of houses available at any given time but if someone refuses to pay they certainly shouldn't be mollycoddled and left in a nice appartment/house over and above council provided accomodation that isn't their first choice.

Like it is now you mean?

Would you be a landlord knowing that you could never off load the property due to State imposed restraints?

Your pension tied up or unable to sell or pass on to a family member for a much-needed home?

Would any bank even lend to you to purchase a house to let out?

Can you tell us why you continuously try to blame SF for what you admit yourself are State imposed restraints given that SF have never been in power here and it was FFG who imposed such restraints

Do you know many first time buyers who are good at restoring vacant/derelict properties?

The aim of the game is to get as many buildings as possible out of dereliction as quickly as possible so that much more acommodation comes on the market.

You cannot address any of the points but just want to engage in character assassination?

Fair enough.

You are better informed than a very experienced constitutional layer, barrister and a former Minister?

What are you even doing here?
Again, I repeat. Why should I respond to an op ed by a person who has a clear and nasty agenda. The ‘points’ are all based on what ifs and maybes and not based on any reality. He’s almost attributing the housing crisis as SF’s fault in the piece. It’s disgusting.

SF are currently being deomized for something they didn't actually do - FFG did it.

Now if, in advance of an election, SF say they will do something and then get voted for in sufficient numbers that they can get in to carry out whatever policy they told the electorate they would, why would that be used to criticize them?

You're all over the place on this Stacey
