Their election promise to freeze rents for three years will 100% worsen the situation in the rental market. What landlord already subject to increasing interest rates is going to stick about when they cant even make the existing negligible rises in RPZs? (that dont match inflation).

Such a move will see a further exodus from the rental market, constricting supply and making it even more difficult for people to find a place to live. Thats not idle speculation by the way , it is a cast iron certainty.


Its one thing to promise populist measures its another thing entirely when they will clearly have damaging consequences.

Rents cannot by law be raised by more than 2% per annum in RPZs. Thats not even close to matching inflation.

If these polls replicated in an election, a SF-FF coalition may only be possible with a few indos or a smaller party coming on board. At best, they would scrape a majority together and be at the mercy of by elections or couple of TDs baulking at playing senior hurling and the decisions that entails!!
