Peter Boylan is an outlier. The family argument between him and his sister in law merely highlights the absurdity of this whole issue.

Opponents of the deal will keep quoting Boylan but ignore the countless other experts who have come out in favour of it,

Co-location of maternity services on the same site as an Adult hospital is best clinical practice. If an expectant mom God forbid should experience Preeclampsia, the only treatment for this condition at present is emergency C-section. This can result in the baby being brought to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the maternity hospital, and the mother transported by ambulance to the nearest emergency adult hospital. Right now, women who experience difficulties during birth that necessitate the intervention of cardiologists, etc, have to be moved to the Mater Hospital if they are having their babies in the Rotunda.

Cork University Maternity Hospital is on the same campus as Cork University Hospital, which is a level one trauma centre. The masters of the Rotunda, Coombe, and Holles Street along with many other obstetricians all agree that it is better for moms and babies if the hospital is built on the St.Vincent's Hospital campus. By the way the term "Master" is gender neutral and has been held by both males and females.

Politicians should listen to the medics in this instance and forget about making political capital out of women's health. It scares women, prolongs a potentially unsafe situation and prevents women in the Dublin area from getting the best possible care.
By the way, the proposal to move The Coombe to James's and The Rotunda to James Connolly in Blanchardstown are also on the table.

James Connolly doesn't even have cardiovascular facilities.
My cousin gave birth a few years ago in Dublin. Her baby had serious heart problems at birth (which they knew about before hand) so the baby had to go to another hospital while she was stuck post c section across the city. Complete disaster for breastfeeding, general care etc.

Actually, it's Peter Boylan who has been doing the most stirring on this issue. SF are just opportunists and saw the chance to cause a split in government ranks, Patrick Costello got loads of likes on twitter for his stance so I guess he's happy now.
Do you know who Peter Boylan's sister in law is?

They don't have a good relationship, at all at all.

I am sure that has nothing to do with his feelings on this issue though.

Not a thing...

Think it's disgraceful the way gambling companies in this country are allowed ban punters who "win too much" but will keep taking the custom (and money) of serial losers. That "stop when it's no longer fun" is the biggest bollox of a fig leaf going. Imagine if they said "stop smoking when it's no longer fun"

If a company demands and is given a license to run a betting business in this country then it should be for all punters imho. They shouldn't just be allowed cherry-pick serial losers and weed out those relatively few who do well at it.

Also think there should be a limit on how much people are allowed gamble per week but I guess we don't want to get too nanny-state.
