The Gaelic Football Thread

My favourite thing about Kerry in the last 10 odd years is the moaning about Dublin being at home and how it’s unfair. When they were beating them up to 12 years ago they used be smug out saying it was like a home venue for Kerry and they really only got going when they got to Croke park. And they said sure the poor aul Dubs twas awful pressure altogether playing in front of a big expectant Dublin crowd.

It must kill them that they haven’t beaten Dublin in a final since 1985.

Thats a bit disingenuous to the animals. The Jacks were a punch bag for Kerry from 1979 - 2011. They mightnt have played them in a final during since 1985, but they beat them up and down the park in any championship game during this time. In fact from 1979 - 2011, Dublin were only an old punch bag for Kerry. And they were lucky in 2011 that Ger Brennan wasnt red carded for an assault on Declan O' Sullivan, who gave the ball away for McMenamans goal, Id say he was concussed.

Obviously the balance of power has changed for the last decade, but for 30 years the Dubs were slapped off the park by Kerry. The so called rivalry had become a ritual humiliation. The Dubs were beat before they crossed the white line, soft as f**k jackeens. They only fell over the line in 95, thanks to a disallowed point and we had beat Kerry that year in Munster.

There was no nappy strong enough for them when they saw the green and gold jerseys back in the day.

You could argue the roles have reversed now. Kerry beat a Dublin team who were missing McCaffrey, Manion and Cluxton last year by a point.

Fair enough they didn’t face each other in a final from 1985-2011 but they’ve played each other in 4 finals in the last 12 years and Kerry just can’t get over them. Kerry football standards have slipped massively since the 1997-2009 team. 2 All Irelands in 14 years for them is a really poor return.

Sure, the roles are reversed now, but Id imagine this Kerry team will win a few AIs this decade, as the Dubs are an ageing outfit. The 3 lads who came back, Jack, Mannion and Clux were pivotal in Sunday's victory. There could well be some key Dublin retirements this year. If so, Kerry look well poised to step into the Dubs shoes. Time will tell.

Derry were unlucky v Kerry this year
Kingdom not as good as they think themselves
