The Action Plan for Housing.

That is correct, I had almost no one bidding against me as they couldn't get a mortgage due to Covid, call it lucky or not, most of the purchase was cash, mortgage was under 20 years
Why were those selling in such a rush to offload the home?
It was a sellers market even then.
So younger people need loads of cash and a pandemic to buy a house?

Out of interest, what part of Cork is this trend occurring? I reckon geographical factors can play a significant role.

North side or South side?!!!
For this particular matter (loggerheads in the "traditional" unit), there is no real divide.

The primary factor seems to be comparison but not exactly like for like.

In simple terms, "Mary's husband does XY and Z", but they overlook the fact that Mary and her husband are both working, and more often the dad in the single income families is working longer hours for financial reasons.

Mum then feels she is doing everything for the children.

That is a nutshell simplistic synopsis, obviously there are a multitude of other factors at play.

Here's a question that is perplexing me -

Why is that new Bayly development in Douglas being advertised so much? Massive billboard on Douglas Street and another one on Tesco in Douglas village.

Isn't this the place that people were sleeping in their cars in to secure a house?

I wouldn't have thought you'd need to spend any money on advertising for something in such high demand

Good point, I suppose that these things may have been planned and agreed months ago.

Subtle marketing to make it appear "exclusive" as they want to get the "right" people in on the first phase to help sell the subsequent phases.

Trying to avoid the guy with the semi-dismantled motorbike and broken washing machine out in front of their house for 5 years.

Owner passed away, property was empty for 8+ years, owner had no kids so someone else inherited, probably saw it as a lottery win so wanted money ASAP

And it wasn't sellers market once first mortgage declines started due to government subsidies. Sellers and auctioneers were shitting their pants and dropping prices rapidly, I got it 20K under
