apparently the STORMONT Executive of which SF are lead party rolled out phone pouches for schools earlier in the year maybe thats where the gov got the idea.
cost of the trial roll out to 10 schools was 250k.

looking at our secondary schools we have 720 , so multipy that 720 by 250k and you get 18 million so maybe we are getting value for money after all ,im not suggesting that for a minute but the Taoiseach pointed out today its not mandatory, it wont be forced on any school and the cost comes in at around 20 euro per child , in the overall scheme of things taking possible mental health benefits thats a small investment.
the IRONY of the whole situation re SF stance is just what it is IRONIC.

It was in all probability the only thing in the entire budget that they could be critical of.

To any of us who are in anyway intelligent, we know it is great for a kid to be away from a distraction like a phone for a few hours so they can be social with their friends and and actually concentrate on what is going on in their classrooms.

Well if a kid does that and is caught, I firmly believe they should be reprimanded, so that they are made an example of.

It's nothing to do with dismissing the idea of reducing phone time, the fact is there are spending 9 million on something that can and is being done now in some schools for free. Imagine the days when schools had rules. No phones allowed in class. Leave in your locker till the end of day. Put your phone in the box on the teachers table.
