Sinn Fein are not a Normal Political Party

Chris McManus brother Joseph was shot dead when he and two others tried to kill a reserve UDR man. He was a volunteer in the Sligo wing of IRA/SF. IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THE UDR MAN ALTHOUGH BADLY INJURED SHOT MCMANUS. If McManus was shot while retreating then this would amount to murder by the UDRman. Compensation was never paid to the McManus family and it is likely that Chris could be suffering .

The passing of time will see SF abandon these commemorations, Right now it is about keeping both camps happy,

The passing of time didn't see either Fianna Fail or Fine Gael abandon those commemorations jimmy - Collins and Lynch are dead 100+ years. WolfTone is dead over 200 years.

But, but.......Sinn Féin

The difference is SF are always talking about understanding, building bridges etc etc, The loyalists never talk of this and their
hatred and bile is unyielding,

But your FFG pals are always talking about understanding jimmy. In fact they especially love to talk about "understanding" when they feel they can point the finger at SF for not "understanding".

Shur Mehole Martin even visits the Orange Order and is fascinated by their culture - that'll be the same culture of eulogising known loyalist terrorists, all the while MM criticises Finnucane for going to South Armagh to a commemoration that has been going on for years without much comment - but Stormont, and indeed councils all over the north, are getting a bit too taigy!

No I don't.
For 3 centuries ? Each other? You know better than that.
People aren't sectarian savages and a UI is going to happen..

NI politics is identity politics. For 3 centuries the dominant identity baked in to NI was unionist/loyalist.
Democracy and equality has now put unionism and loyalist identity in the minority. When the time comes, no one will be taking Britishness or British citizenship or British identity away from anyone.

My point was the best way to continue to normalise society is for it all to stop. On ALL sides. Democracy will take care of the rest.

Difficult to arrange, especially when the Orange Order pretends that it's a purely religious celebration organisation and given the fact that there'll always be diehards on every side, though I think it's on the wane - certainly compared to where it was. Most had hoped that 25 years on things would be in a much less polarised place than it currently is but it's still a hell of a lot better than it used to be.

BTW, when you say it should ALL stop - do you include Bodenstown, commemoration of 1916, Collins etc? And if so, what about the 11th Day of the 11th month which lately has become a week/fortnight for some to flex their comemmoration muscle?
