Shane Ross to form new Political Party

I honestly have no idea where Ross and Creighton have dreamed up this idea that there is room for a right leaning conservative party/grouping in Ireland. It's doomed to fail. Creighton just wants to rally the pro-life crazies and Ross seems to be a PD with a slightly different flavour. That sounds like a little dollop of FG's right and a little dollop of FF's right. I think it' ssimply a result of ego - these individuals think they are worthy of a gathering.

Its an unusual one alright - the gap seems to be for a leftist party but I don't think we have any lefty politicians that are credible

Boydser-Babble for taoiseach?

It will only take very conservative FG voters and some dissaffected FF voters and there will be lots of talk about "reform" but nothing radical really.

I agree with everything in this post however I absolutely fucking detest where our taxes go, these protests should have happened a long time ago but not over water charges.

They were never going to happen as we have had the Croke Park & Haddington road agreement keeping the public servants wrapped up nice and cozy and insulated from some of the harsher effects of austerity.

People had the opportunity in the last election to put in place a progressive, centre left Coalition led by Labour and bulked out by the likes of Socialist minded indepependents and dare I say it, the Greens. The numbers were there according to the polls. All it would have took was for people to have balls.

Instead, we got the same old shit of people voting for the part of FG/FF that they weren't pissed off with at the time. Even though it was right there in their manifesto that they would cut the deficit to 3%, introduce water and property taxes and cut the upper band of income tax. Somehow, people are shocked at a political party actually doing what they said they would do.

Very good point. I mentioned it in an earlier post that the Irish electorate are by their very nature conservative. They'd rather the devil they know than a leap into the unknown. It will be the same come the next GE. All this chest thumping about independents or looney left parties will come to nothing.

What happened with FF in the last GE was probably the most radical thing to happen in Irish politics since the formation of the state. You won't see something like that again for a while.

We could ver well see a wipe out of FG and Labour in 2016 in favour of FF and SF. Imagine the fucking fun we'll have then.

They also promised they would do a lot more on the bank debt, but that wasn't as black and white as the water charges etc.

To be honest if I was in the country I would have voted FG in the last election but wouldn't do it now. The best thing that could happen to politics in this country is a FF and FG merger, then people (like me in the last election) will really have to choose between right and left.

(shudders) Can't see the second scenario happening at all. There would more likely be a FF/FG merger long before it got to that. FF/FG belong to the old boys club. They might all heckle and slag each other off across the floor but come end of day they all go for pints together.
