So as he breathlessly talks about the Ukrainian nationalist Bandera, who both initially collaborated with the Germans (hoping that the Germans were going to support a Ukrainian state) and then opposed them (and was imprisoned by them), he ignores the fact that when it came to Nazi collaboration, no one did it more than the Soviet state (who had military ties (secretly) with Germany right from the end of WW1. It was the Soviets, for example, who allowed the Germans to develop their Air Force. And it was the Soviets who supplied much of the food and raw materials used by the Germans at the start of the war.

Bandera, of course, killed Jews and Poles, although not to the extent that the Soviets did. And Silky would have us forget that the Soviets annexed Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and Eastern Poland. And in this annexation they killed or deported as many of the ruling class (officers, intellectuals, government workers etc) as they could. (Note that the Soviet Union held onto everything they stole after the war).

But they did fight and beat Germany (only AFTER they were attacked. So we are required to forget all of the terrible things they did. Basically, if the Russians did bad stuff, if was the fault of those nasty communists. If the Russians did good stuff, it was good Russians being Russians.

You also forgot a minor detail in history while the democracies did not get involved the Soviet Union supported the Republicans in the Spanish Civil War against the fascists.

Speaking of the Spanish Civil War, while Italy and Germany provided support to the Spanish fascists for free, Stalin made the Republicans pay for everything in gold, eating up the entire gold reserve of the Spanish government, after which no further aid was forthcoming. Also, the Soviets who came over to Spain to fight” spent much of their time fighting the other Republican factions while they tried to take the whole thing over. (And then, of course, Stalin had most of these people shot when they returned to Moscow).

I can see that the Spanish Civil War is another history you haven’t bothered to learn about.
