From a Ukranian point of view, surely now is an ideal time to talk. Russia winning the war comfortably but US aid for Ukraine approved strengthening the Ukrainian negotiation position. Talk now or fire what they can get from the 60 billion at the Russians, probably get the same fired back at them, tens of thousands of more lives lost, gamble on being in a better position and then negotiate or negotiate now form a relative position of strength?

You don't believe the Ukrainians will ever see that full amount? surely not. Anything left over from paying Pensions, salaries, backhanders, 10% to the big guy, laundering it all back to the Congress boys, disappearing without a trace...be lucky if a million makes it there.

Either Russia is “easily winning the war” or the Ukrainians have a relative position of strength. Not both. Tell the boys back at your shop that they have to come up with something else.

In any case, since Putin’s oft stated war aim is to either absorb Ukraine outright (since he claims it doesn’t exist) or to eliminate its sovereignty by helping himself to its land, dictating its foreign policy, and replacing its government with one of his choosing, there’s really nothing to negotiate. Is there?

Is it all going to be blown on expensive kit though, or are they going to try to buy 5,000,000 rounds of 155mm and continue firing artillery until the Russians run out of men?

Patriots ATACMs is where it will hurt the Russians not just holding the line. Like Catcha says plenty of artillery suddenly appears with Czechs Estonians. Bridge needs to go ASAP then will be different ball game to get their gear to the front…

None of that backs up your claim that "Putin’s oft stated war aim is to either absorb Ukraine outright". Putin didn't even refer to it as a war until recently. Putin has however stated that Russia are open to dialogue.
