Recycle / Re-Turn

“The figures demonstrate that the recycling scheme has been embraced by the public, the minister added.”

“Fianna Fáil TD Christopher O'Sullivan welcomed the scheme, noting that, when it was introduced, "people had been lining up to knock it".

But he revealed that when he went to use his local machine, it was out of order.

He was "over-joyed" when it worked on his second visit, saving him €2 on his shopping that day.

Can someone please explain to him he didn’t save anything?

I'd say Chris isn't the brightest, Holly had a lucky escape there.

Works great in my area, no issues at all, only lazy people complain. What this will develop to, is that charities will use it for funding, great job

Seen a video of a bunch of young fellas dropping in a can on a string then pulling it back up and dropping it again.

Trust a bunch of school kids to bring this thing to its knees :lol!:
It's actually not a big deal, lazy people offset that cost x10, scheme already made millions in fee not being claimed back, that's all the point. Few teens pulling it up and down will get beating from the shop owner they are hurting and that will stop

i think it’s hilarious “this state of the art technology” can be undone by a few 15 year old lads with some fishing gut.

The whole thing is a money making racket, end of story

Sad to see the usual grumpy old men still bitching and moaning about this plastic bottle initiative, which has been in operation in countries like Germany for decades.

Dunno how you're reaching that conclusion m8?

Their own literature says that all unclaimed moneies 'will go toward operating costs'.

It would appear you've arbitrarily decided this scheme is a good thing and you're inventing scenarios to support this.

In truth , this scheme is entirely unnecessary in a country with no municipal waste collection. We all already pay private operators to process our already seperated recyclables.

Its another costly Green party initiative that has just seen supermarkets take advantage by hiking prices on cans and plastic bottles. To encourage this in the middle of skyrocketing inflation is inexcusable.
In other countries charities put up their own bins, especially in corporate buildings etc. They collect the empties, take them to the machine and get money they can use to run the charities.

They also put up their own bins around schools, community centers, similar to clothes collection bins, they make sure they are emptied and recycled.

They also offer collections from people homes, let's say you collect 2 big bags of empties, they'll come and pick it up .

Works great in civilized world.
