March On City Hall

Is Dublin really getting a tidal barrier? Would've thought the harbour in Cork would have lent itself more to a tidal barrier (which might even double as a vehicular crossing - or give it to the pedestrians and cyclists). Our local politicians of all parties don't kick up enough on Cork's behalf imho.

They take the relative crumbs from their Dublin overlords' table and tug the forelock. :-(

Actually I seem to recall that the idea of a tidal causeway with lifting bridge in the middle was floated (see what I did there) and would have proven to be substantially less to both build and maintain/ extend.
There were a couple of reasons bobbing round as to why it was abandoned in favour of d'tunnel - chose the one you want to believe....
(A) the wading birds around Blackrock castle were cited as an environmental obstruction
(B). We didn't have the far sightedness to conceive the moving of the existing shipping infrastructure on the quays, downriver
(C). Twas also mooted that we got a much bigger (pro rata) grant (from eu?) against d'tunnel and it was a better for employment

Either way - unless we practice holding our breath - a barrier of sorts is on the agenda but (aside from he detrimental effects on the mud dwellers of Blackrock, the overall effect will to create THE VENICE OF THE BRITISH ISLES (you heard it here first ).

Venice of the North

Yup, some of the CC streets were Canals. You can still see Bollards. The Coal Quay was an actual Quay........http://corkheritage.ie/?page_id=973
The River, Sea, Trade, and all associated are Cork. Building Walls which remove it from sight is absurd. Pretty much everything City Hall comes up with is absurd.
BTW how many people in City Hall or other Council buildings have Free Car Parking?

Flood

City Hall has made many attempts to waste our Taxes on idiotic misadventures. A National Sized Waste Sorting Facility at the new Kinsale Road Park. A RaceTrack at the same Park. The recent Car Ban on Patrick Street. The slippery slabs which are costing 4,700,000 annually in compensation claims.....

Now they have given permission to wall the River Lee out of Vision forever. That is simply not going to happen. It will take direct action to halt the work. But the City is full of joyous revellers every night.
I can see Machinery, Tools, Materials ending up in the River. Anything with a Key can be SuperGlued.....
