Immigration Thread

Straight from the Healy Rae school of politics:

"[They] can go about playing the big hard men, talking about the big bucks they’re making. But they want to realise the damage they are doing to these towns.

They are worse than the English landlords of decades ago. Their behaviour is as bad as any drug cartel. Shame on them.

"Government has a lot to answer for but these people are the biggest traitors out of everyone, the way they are selling out communities," he said to loud applause.

Mr O'Leary said people at the protest were “some of finest people in Fermoy who care deeply about their community, their family and their town”. He promised to stand with them “no matter what”.
Speaking of drugs.

Course you did - but while there are a number of FF elected officials "breaking ranks" some even claiming to be "more Fianna Fail than Micheal Martin" it's on Matt Carthy's "dancing" around the question that had you declare that it's actually Sinn Féin and not Fianna Fail who've done an about face on the issue.

If you still haven't listened to MLMD this morning she utterly condemned the burning of that hotel. But she was very critical of the lack of plan and lack of joined up thinking in the whole immigration "policy" by the government.

As ever jimmy your whole drive in this seems to be "Some Fianna Fail guys have been a bit naughty, but...but....Sinn Féin" :ROFLMAO:
Mary Wilson asked MLMD about a letter SF TD Patricia Ryan sent to constituents saying modular housing planned for
ukrainians in the area should not go ahead, MLMD said there are people in the area on housing waiting lists and thus
Ryan was correct in what she said, Going by that logic there should be no modular housing anywhere in the country ,
Every area has a housing issue,

The STATE audit warned the Bundestag that less than half of Ukrainian refugees in Germany successfully complete the integration course, German media reports.

"Despite the huge costs, the results of the integration courses are sobering: less than half of the Ukrainian refugees have successfully completed these courses," says the State Audit report submitted to the parliamentary budget committee and reported by German media.

The state audit refers to data from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, according to which, since the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022, 450,000 Ukrainian refugees have been registered for integration courses, which mostly consist of learning the German language.

Due to lack of knowledge of the language, only one in five Ukrainians works

Of that number, by the end of September this year, 135,000 started integration courses, of which only 61,266 completed the courses successfully. About 56,000 failed the final exam, in most cases due to poor knowledge of German, and 16,000 dropped out of the course early.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, over a million refugees from this country have been registered in Germany. They, unlike other refugees, claim the right to the full amount of social assistance and other state benefits, such as rent and utilities, from day one, just like German citizens.

Recent studies have shown that only every fifth refugee from Ukraine of working age has a job.

The main reason for the low employment rate among Ukrainian refugees is insufficient knowledge of the German language.

I would expect the same would be with English too. Ukrainians are nice, but centuries of exposure to Russian only left them unemployable in the most of EU unfortunately

To be fair I think the knowledge of English rather than German as a second language would be much higher thanks in no small way to the internet, cinema, TV shows etc where the dominant language is "English".

In fairness to the brits, they did give us some useful things and being an english speaking nation within the EU is a great help in attracting FDIs.
