Immigration Thread

Examiner broke ranks, called out the incompetence of our government. Highlighting figures published by the European Commission show the rate of illegal immigrants recorded in the Republic in 2023 in relation to population was over 10 times the EU average.

Of course strangely enough the article has been removed ? -

There's plenty of links and articles, just look up 'Protocol 21' of the Lisbon Treaty, some light reading to get you warmed up.

None of that says that Ireland can opt out of immigration. We have an open land border with the UK. Very little any treaty can do to stop people crossing the border, be that legal or illegal crossings.

As per Gavan Reilly, I think the figures were incorrect.
"There’s a good chance it’s so much higher than the average because Eurostat has got the decimal point in the wrong spot.

1,485 among 5.2 million people equates to 0.285 per thousand.

The 20% rise is the meaningful stat, not the miscalculation of where we are relative to average"

Tell me what first attracted you to Ireland, The country of very generous welfare payments?
Farcical.
We were top offering €230 per week.
The next highest in the whole of the EU was €120 per week.
Paddy looks after everyone except Paddy.
People were saying this was unsustainable for months and were called right wing.
Country is broken.
It's very very sad.
FF/FG politicians should all be in jail for what they've done.
Wait till we do a Covid inquiry.

I agree with most of your post but not with the bit re covid inquiry, They followed the advice given except for that xmas
period where they felt they needed to give people a break, Right across the political divide there was broad agreement on all they did,
