Ford Puma 1.7

I'm thinking of getting one of these. Any links to decent sites where I can get info on any likely problems etc?

why would you want one of these, seriously there is no headroom, you look like a hairdresser too, they aren't quick either. the main faults are with the suspension on these things but really they aren't a great car and fords were terrible before the focus came along

If you want something that size with a small engine and stylish get an orginal mini.

Good Luck ;)

What's Good

Highly rated, brilliant handling, Fiesta-based coupe. 13' long by 6' wide. Yamaha-developed 125 bhp 1.7 litre Zetec S engine supplemented by 90 bhp 1.4 Zetec S in February 1998 and 153 bhp 'Racing' in early 2000. 1.4 replaced by 99bhp 1.6 in Spring 2001. 'Racing' Puma offered outstanding grip and 'race car feel' for those prepared to fork out £20k plus. Trade Sales of Slough were selling 1.7s with Lux pack (including aircon) for £10,999 in July 2001. BMW, Toyota and Ford jointly suffered the fewest breakdowns attended by German ADAC during 2001. Ford had 7th lowest average warranty repair costs in 2003 Warranty Direct Reliability index (index 65.51 v/s lowest 31.93) 1998-2000 Pumas rated fewest breakdowns; Pumas generally rated average for breakdowns, problems and faults in 2003 Which survey. Ford 4th top top of Reliability Index for 2004 combining very low average cost of repair of £207.58 with average 32.16 failures per 100 Warranty Direct policies. Link:- www.reliabilityindex.co.uk

Final edition was the Puma Thunder in the photo. Club and masses of information: www.pumapeople.co.uk

What's Bad

Production ceased at end of 2001, though stockpiled cars continue to be sold into 2002. Could suffer similar brake problems to Fiesta. Special bore linings of thinwall 1.7 Zetec S engines can be affected in a similar way as BMW M52s. Vital to use the correct oil and not to use the car for short runs from cold. Misfiring 1.7 litre engine may be due to weeping core plugs leaking coolant onto spark plugs. Repeated heater valve problems.

What to Watch Out For

Possibility of having been thrashed. Check the oil level as well as the oil colour of 1.7s. 5,000-mile oil changes far more sensible than Ford recommended 10,000-mile intervals. Don't switch to fully synthetic oil without written approval from Ford as this may affect bore liners, and definitely don't used any old oil. Kerbing will throw out critical front suspension alignment. Uneven front tyre wear should put you on your guard. Front suspension bushes have been prone to wear so if the front suspension clonks this is probably why. You can get one for £5,000 at auction now, so make sure you don't pay too much.

Recalls

1998 ( built Mar '98-Sep '98 ): 4,500 Pumas recalled to have brake master cylinder replaced. 26-7-2003: 481 cars recalled because rear brake flexible hoses may chafe on axle beam. Modifies, re-routed hoses and clips to be fitted.

Well I'm sure they could google the car to find out all of what you posted themselves. All my knowledge (the mountains of it) is in my head, not on some website. The distinction between a petrolhead and google.

All I see is a person that likes a certain car and asks for links/advice he gets nothin but pure shite from you like aghhh hairdressers car man that kinda shite isn't very helpful especially since not everybodies taste in cars is the same or the same as yours as you would like.
I post a link with relevant info to the required car and you tell me to fuck off.
So wheres the logic in that then I suppose thats in your head as well is it?
