Cyclists

In your opinion which you are entitled to.
However in the greater scheme of things, it means nothing to me.
Red lights are used to stop traffic, he ignored one and killed a child. No ifs buts or maybe. Two years for taking a child’s life is a terrible sentence.
He should have got a lot more. I can’t fathom how people here think a child’s life is only worth two years in jail.
You think what ?

When he comes out of prison he will be living the high life is it ?
That man has something terrible on his conscious now, I for one would hate to be him, the prison sentence no matter how long is probably immaterial to him

A lot of people in prison have something terrible on their conscience
He should have it on his conscience for the rest of his life just like the parents of the child he killed will be always looking at the door hoping their child walks thru it.
That is usually why they are in there.
I would hate to be him as well, that’s why I obey the rules of the road and stop at red lights.

I think you are being deliberately evasive and adopting a one dimensional thought process regards this incident.

There's more than the fundamental facts. Which is probably why the man wasn't jailed for life. If you think he should have been locked up for longer you must think we live in a perfect black and white world.

I’m not being evasive about anything. I don’t concur with your opinion.
It is very simple, if he had stopped at the red light, that child would be alive. He didn’t, he took the child’s life and two years for doing this is very short sentence.
Now you can keep replying if you want, you will be wasting your time as I won’t be changing my opinion or seeing it from your pov as it is irrelevant to me.

I'm trying to put myself in the shoes of those parents and think how I would feel if it was my child.

It's very difficult to say. But my feeling would probably be 2 years or 5 years or 10 years and a lifetime ban from driving wouldn't bring my child back. For my own sanity I'd have to make peace with the fact it was a tragic accident.

Using the roads is perilous. Having the right of way doesn't automatically mean you get the right of way. And there is a myriad of factors involved why accidents happen. As in this case.

Drivers/ cyclists/ pedestrians are notorious for making mistakes.

The man was responsible and was given his sentence. If you consider it should have been more, well that's your feeling and so be it.

My own feeling would be, that a tougher sentence wouldn't make one jot of difference except to completely ruin that man and that of his family.

If it was my child and because I'm a driver and understand the perils of the roads, it would bring no comfort to bestow a longer harsher jail term on that man.
?
Brilliant post Chara.

Okay I hear you in your unyielding stance and what you think and feel about this incident.

Suffice to say though, mitigating factors are never irrelevant.

Do a lot of people have something terrible on their conscience?
Is that why so many of them reoffend ?

He will have it on his conscience for the rest of his life.

God it must be wonderful to be as perfect as you though.
