Rowan Tonight!
9pm. Tickets available in advance from
http://www.coughlans.ie/whats-on/rowan-11122086

Introducing Rowan: A talented foursome of multi-instrumentalists creating melodramatic indie- folk soaked in sophisticated vocal harmonies. Rowan are currently commanding a great deal of attention for their symphonic indie-anthems. The band has supported acts such as Badly Drawn Boy, Duke Special, Brian Deady, Hamsandwich and many more. Rowan's music has recently earned them recognition by winning the 'Colin Vearncombe' Songwriting award.

The individual members of the band have worked with world renowned artists such as The Stunning, The Frank and Walters, Toucan, Ariel Posen, Adam Neely, Stephanie Rainey, Jack O'Rourke, Little Hours, Clare Sands and many more, performing to crowds of thousands in some instances.

Rowan's harmoniously rich compositions are laden with melodies that bring the listener to a familiar place with a tasteful twist of their own nature.

Their acute and lucid sound is a melange of indie & folk with hints of jazz, a melodic style reminiscent of Arcade Fire, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Strokes and many others.

The band's first release "Sunrise" was playlisted on RTE Radio 1 for 2 weeks and put the band on the map in Ireland.

Following the release of their debut EP 'Asleep in the Rain', Rowan have performed sold out shows across Ireland, the UK, Germany and New York on their first tour. They have just finished writing their debut album and hope to record it within the next year.

"The Real Deal" -Badly Drawn Boy

"Dylan is an incredible songwriter. A serious gift for melody and hooks and what an instrumentalist. Rowan is the perfect vehicle for his plaintive voice and songwriting" -Jack O Rourke

Support on the night comes from Louis Cormack

Louis Cormack’s songs are for the cold winter nights, stretched summer days, and all the times of change in between. Born in Aberdeen, bred in Wiltshire and refined in Cork, Louis will take you wandering through familiar territories and hidden dreams. Following his self-recorded release of the song “Here in the morning” in May 2019, Louis is due to release his debut album “Black Waters” in early 2020. The album was recorded live to 1/4" magnetic tape, bringing forward a recording process which has produced the sound of Louis’ favourite classic albums from the likes of Nick Drake, Bob Dylan, John Martyn and Neil Young.

Andy White & Cormac O Caoimh tonight.
9pm | Tickets €15 www.coughlans.ie/whats-on

Belfast troubadour Andy White December show in Coughlans is his first since the evenings he’d climb the stairs in The Lobby to bang out versions of Religious Persuasion, James Joyce’s Grave and Street Scenes From My Heart on his twelve-string.

He has supported Van Morrison, Clannad and Billy Bragg amongst others elsewhere in Cork, but The Lobby shows are ones which he remembers best – if not always most clearly.

He's got a new album out, follow-up to 2017's The Guilty & the Innocent which saw a return to the political wit displayed in his debut Rave on Andy White, which first brought Andy to attention.

Collaborating with the likes of Tim Finn and Liam O Maonlai (as ALT), writing with Peter Gabriel, Andy has had a stellar career in music while still keeping a firm grip on his “have guitar, will travel” folksinger ethos.

Tonight! Marc O'Reilly & Jasper Høiby with guest Eve Clague.
Doors 9pm. Tickets €10. http://www.coughlans.ie/whats-on

With gritty sonic depth, Irish songwriter Marc O'Reilly attacks his muse with a bipolar verve that swings from reflection to sheer riotous joy. Backed by the tightest band in Christendom, rare and beautiful songs slam into wild blues fragments and effortlessly back to clean vocal harmonies.

Copenhagen-born bassist Jasper Høiby created the trio Phronesis in 2005, he which has toured extensively in Europe and North America and won awards for 'Jazz Album of the Year' in Jazzwise and MOJO Magazines 2010 (Alive, Edition 2010) as well as a London Jazz Award for the trio's Pitch Black performance at Brecon Jazz festival 2012. Phronesis was also chosen for the IJFO's (International Jazz Festival Organisation) new talent support programme, which resulted in performances at eleven IJFO festivals between 2012 and 2014. The trio won the UK's Parliamentary Jazz Award for best Jazz Ensemble of the Year 2017 and were nominated for 'Album of the Year' in the 2017 Danish Music Awards.

Hailing from Clonakilty, Ireland, Eve Clague is a singer-songwriter who draws on the rich variety of music she grew up with in her home and community to create a highly personal and direct style of song writing. Having left school at the age of 15, Eve toured nationally with a number of bands as a vocalist and sax player and has clocked up more hours as a working musician than most artists in their early twenties. However it was her enrollment in Corks School of Music in 2014 which really gave Eve the time and space to develop her songwriting and collaborate with a huge range of like minded musicians.
