Cork Limerick Motorway

Just when in the name of FU*K are Cork politicians, of EVERY party, going to remove their fingers from their collective holes and DEMAND that there's a Cork Limerick Motorway built as a matter of priority.

This morning we hear that the N17 has been upgraded to M17 at a cost of 500Million Euros for the 57Km involved, and replaced by a shiney new UNTOLLED motorway facilitating drivers going from Tuam (pop 8,242) to Gort (pop 2,644) to bypass Claregalway (1217), Clarinbridge (2011), Kilcolgan (circa 135), and Ardrahan (540)

Meanwhile those going from Cork to Limerick the 2nd and 3rd/4th biggest cities in the state, have to negotiate the treacherous and often lethal Mallow road, drive through Mallow (roundabout) population 15,350 (bigger than the above combined), Buttevant (1,752) and Charleville (3,672). This doesn't even factor in the likes of Croom and Patrickswell now bypassed.

Obviously those in the county of Galway and beyond will have use of the M17 but again that's just a fraction of those living in Cork in or near the Cork, Mallow, Buttevant, Charleville, Croom, Patrickswell route

A Cork Limerick motorway would provide a much better "bang" for the taxpayers "buck" and yet our politicians have been diverted from putting one in place.

There can be no excuse for this utter disregard for the people of Munster in general and Cork/Limerick in particular.

I'd love to hear ANY politician, of ANY party, trying to excuse this lack of motorway between Cork and Limerick.

You'll be waiting kid.

This country can't even house it's people.

But oh look, an Events Centre....not!

Mehole was banging this drum loudly a few months back. Needs to back up his fine words by insisting it goes in the budget.
Haven't heard anything from SF reps on it .
TBH, any serious pressure must come from government tds and primarily cabinet. Unfortunately, Coveney has been abysmal in this regard. Didn't raise a whimper when Pascal' Donoghue dismissed calls for it to be prioritised.

Lost any hope of Coveny doing anything much in terms of standing up for Cork when he rolled over to Noonan etc on Cork Airport under the thumb of DAA

F**king astounding that the politicos have stayed quiet on this - yes even SF politicos could be doing a lot more on it imho

If you think that's funny, wait till you get a load of this:

Remember this the next time a labour party candidate comes looking for your vote in an election.

They should never be left near power ever again. Between Alan Kelly trying to abolish our citycouncil and Brendan Howlin building a motorway in his own constituency at the height of the economic crash not to mention Kathleen Lynch writing a letter to a Judge asking him to "go easy" on a convicted rapist and Joan Burton with her "if they can afford mobile phones they can afford to pay water charges," they really are the political wing of the Fintan O' Toole brigade.

Never again.

Coventry has been woeful for Cork. Not a sod turned on any major project.

The road death statistics on this road should be highlighted and used as a stick to beat the government with.

I would not like to be driving it every day as part of my commute.
