Just when in the name of FU*K are Cork politicians, of EVERY party, going to remove their fingers from their collective holes and DEMAND that there's a Cork Limerick Motorway built as a matter of priority.
This morning we hear that the N17 has been upgraded to M17 at a cost of 500Million Euros for the 57Km involved, and replaced by a shiney new UNTOLLED motorway facilitating drivers going from Tuam (pop 8,242) to Gort (pop 2,644) to bypass Claregalway (1217), Clarinbridge (2011), Kilcolgan (circa 135), and Ardrahan (540)
Meanwhile those going from Cork to Limerick the 2nd and 3rd/4th biggest cities in the state, have to negotiate the treacherous and often lethal Mallow road, drive through Mallow (roundabout) population 15,350 (bigger than the above combined), Buttevant (1,752) and Charleville (3,672). This doesn't even factor in the likes of Croom and Patrickswell now bypassed.
Obviously those in the county of Galway and beyond will have use of the M17 but again that's just a fraction of those living in Cork in or near the Cork, Mallow, Buttevant, Charleville, Croom, Patrickswell route
A Cork Limerick motorway would provide a much better "bang" for the taxpayers "buck" and yet our politicians have been diverted from putting one in place.
There can be no excuse for this utter disregard for the people of Munster in general and Cork/Limerick in particular.
I'd love to hear ANY politician, of ANY party, trying to excuse this lack of motorway between Cork and Limerick.
