Cork Hurlers - Part 2

Ah for fuck sake, are we now talking about Davy Fitz as potential cork manager after one championship win against an abject Cork team? Ye have lost the plot

Be careful what ye wish for is all I’ll say
Its Reckuf just spamming the place FFS

the reaction to the result has been understandable, so much build up, so much disappointment and the possibility that we are done and watching others light the championship up again.. but lads calling for Kingston is amusing me. He was to never see a Cork shirt again after the league in here.. and now he's the great white hope!

We have the panel of hurlers we have.. most seemed in agreement that it was the strongest we had assembled in years before the match, now lads are calling for guys that have hardly played in the league as the answer to championship hurling against Clare. I would love to see TOM more involved, but PR completely lost the opportunity to see how he'd go over the league, I have no idea why but maybe he doesn't go well at all in training? My guess is he doesn't trust him because he fouls too much, and with long free specialists in most teams thats a point every time that we cant afford.

Momentum is everything in sport and we dont have the unshakable belief Limerick have to fall back on when the match is going against us. The first 5-10 minutes is critical and it went against us again, a Waterford goal and they tag a bunch of points to it.. we are chasing instead of settlng in. The management have questions to answer for this as we hit a string of wides that cost us the chance to get right back in the mix and back in front quickly. People have pointed out that the wides evened themselves out as Waterford hit more in the 2nd half and we sorted our accuracy out.. but thats not how things work, its much easier to defend a lead and hold a team at bay than chase a deficit.

After all of the focus on puc-outs I couldn't believe that we continued to beat them long down on top of a Waterford HB line with 4 men, and watch them eat us for breakfast in the air.. whats worse is we knew this is how Davy would set them up but ignored it and went for it regardless.

PR can sort that this week, he has to. We need to get our formation and match-ups right, and we need to get our tactics and game plan right, there is no excuse not to now. If PR thinks we didn't deliver the right amount or kind of ball into the forwards, then why didn't he change it so that we did? We had options to work passes in and turned them down.. the minute we did we scored. Get it right and we have a fighting chance

Lots of people on griping about TOC going back wing-back. It was obvious at the start of the second half that he was assigned the role of man-marking Jamie Barron (who is smaller than him) as he was causing fierce trouble. That's how he ended up in the half-back line.
PR & co have gotten a lot wrong but I wouldn't blame them for that.
That’s true and he didn’t do badly at that but he still struggled on the high balls.
It seemed a logical switch at the time and MC roared into the game at MF but faded quickly enough

Your bill must have been cut off as can't wait to hear end of this story.
Now is the time to get Davy and have him lined up for next year before he is gobbled up by Galway or Clare.
This season is write off so let's rebuild for next year with a new manager and fresh ideas. 4 or 5 lads not up to it at this level. Need a strong spine Nd we don't have that. Lads are getting picked on who they know or their club instead of ability.
Power cut actually. As I was saying:

Apart from his doubtful part in the 2013 win, Dayy Fitz has never been a winner at inter-county level. Indeed he probably lost Cork Camogie the All-Ireland when he was their manager/coach. Cork were a point up in that match, going into the last minute of injury time and had a free in front of Kilkenny's goals. A Kilkenny player was down in injured and while she was being attended to, Davy went around to as many of the Cork players as he could giving them his peerless advice. Cork scored from the free and went two points up. Kilkenny took the puck-out, went straight down the field and scored a goal to win the match. Davy had broken their concentration. I hope I never hear his name coupled with Cork again. Even his own county threw him out. He’s just a mercenary and his only passion if for himself.

One other gripe I had about yesterday, and maybe I'm being too critical of AC, but with Cork trailing by three points and deep into injury time, we get a free about 70 yards out - long go that would have been hit "in around the houses" in the hope of engineering a goal from a flick or a 21 yard free or the like. Yesterday it was just driven over the bar as though to say "look we mightn't win or get a draw, but we're close". I'd have thought at that stage a draw would have been a good result and I've little doubt the ref would have blown for full time had we equalised.

At least that's the way I saw it. 🤷‍♂️
As I saw it, he had a word with the linesman first (possibly about time) and knew there would be time for another chance. There was, but it Waterford who took it.

Yep.. still not sure it was the right decision because a goal was never guaranteed either. It wasn't the losing of the match one way or the other

Tommy went wing back in the first half and stayed there
