Cork Hurlers - Part 2

Decent game given the tough conditions. Brian Hayes did very well - ended up with about 1-4 and a number of assists. William Buckley had a purple patch in the first half and got 4 points plus another in the second though he was quieter after the break. Many others had moments of quality but none stood out like the 2 Barrs boys. Cormac O Brien and Tommy did fine - Lehane started off like a train but quitened down after ht. Decent workout overall - far better than the Teddy Mac game.

The game was played at a rip-roaring pace throughout, despite the awful conditions. Two evenly matched teams. Players tended to drift in and out. Tommy O Connell played a lot of good ball. It seemed to me that his best position is midfield. Shane Kingston was very industrious throughout, showed for and won a lot of ball, but spoiled a lot of his good work due inaccuracy. Lehane was very good in the first half but faded in the second half. Darragh Flynn was excellent while he was on. Cathal McCarthy and Conor O Callaghan both impressed.
On the UCC side, the inside defence were solid. Sean Daly wearing 4 played in the midfield and was very good, as was Cormac O Brien. Brian Hayes and Shane Barrett were both industrious and successful. Wm Buckley was the game changer when introduced. On a day that couldn't have suited him, he was excellent by any yardstick.
Overall, a good day out for both teams. The result was of the least importance.

How did Carey(Kilworth) play?

William started the game while Shane Barrett was introduced in the second half

Given that Cathal Mc, Flynn and one of the Roche brothers lined out for Cork, are they finished up in UCC? Didn't think they were in the college that long.

It was interesting to see Cathal McCarthy being given the licence to play an attacking role like he does at Sars. Broke down for him a few times. Work in progress. William Buckley was excellent until taking a fairly serious clip from Carey. Conor o’Callaghan looked very solid throughout. Saunderson’s puc outs were much more consistent in the second half after a loose enough start and this made a big difference for college in terms of winning possession. Very interesting workout. It’s hard not to like Tommy O’Connell’s work rate and distribution bearing in mind problems he had at wingback during the championship. Very good to see inter county teammates having a go at each other. Bodes well.
