Cork Hurlers - Part 2

I think its very fair to say that some of Limericks older players are on the wain, the likes of Hannon, Byrnes, T Morrissey, WOD, Flanagan. Its not righting off these players off, they are quality but are they the automatic all stars of previous years. Probably not.

Byrnes is fantastic in the air but looks pretty tired down the stretch in league games. WOD is quality but can be keep the manic workrate over several games now, he might.

C O' Neill & K Hayes were Limericks best players last year by a fair distance.

Can they reproduce and new talent ( O'Brien, English and the returning Casey etc) make up for the slippage of the older players, thats the question. Only cship will tell.

My guess it that the limerick team off 2/3 years ago is stronger than this year team.

Note - posters say this limerick team are the very best seen, they are definitely up there with the previous amazing KK teams. Because Lim favor point scoring, alot of it long range/midfield I think the 4 in a row KK team who hunted goals have a slight edge of them IMO.
KK were certainly an awesome team. However they more or less got a free pass in Leinster to the AI semi final most years. If I recall correctly they also played Wexford in at least one of those semi finals? Limerick have had no such luxury.

That KK team hammered plenty of munster teams in the league Duke. Anyway, I must be mellowing in middle age..discussing the greatest team between KK vs Lim...

If limerick are on the wain over the last few years that would suggest that every team in Munster are more on the wain.
6 munster titles in a row tells a different story ,something I think will probably take a long long time for anyone to match .
Are we on the wain it's hard to tell ,every munster championship is hard fought and limericks greatest asset is their ability to come out on top in tight games. Obviously twice against cork we didn't do do but Cork had to produce exceptional hurling to win those games. Looking forward to the challenge and I like the new players we have introduced, wouldn't write us off yet .
That then implies that Limerick are as good as they were in 2018 to 2024 which I don't think anyone believes or that Cork now are the same as they were in that period.... in other words that everything is static which of course it never is.
Based on your logic Limerick would have won the All Ireland last year, every team has a life cycle and time catches up with even the very best. My own belief is that in 2021 Limerick were at the very peak of their powers. That year they won the All Ireland without hardly breaking into a sweat.

Do I think Limerick will get out of Munster in 2025.. yes I do.
Will they win the All Ireland ? I don't know, but they certainly are one of the favourites.

Munster hurling is a bear pit and it is hard to get right who will come out each year.
This time last year Limerick were expected to win the All Ireland and many people believed that Clare and Tipp would come out of Munster with them.
Waterford who nobody gave a chance to were unlucky not to progress instead of Cork and of course Tipp collapsed.

Anything can happen in Munster, one unexpected poor results puts huge pressure on a county and if someone offered me a third place finish for Cork this moment I would snap your hand off for it, I think most counties would which tells me that Munster titles now carry relatively little value.

Some good points but will address the last one, winning munster championship is still a much prized achievement and I think every county wants to win it .

KF.
At the risk of contradicting myself I would suggest that a Munster or League title would be far more valuable to all the other Munster counties than Limerick.
For Cork it would be a tangible reward and a winners medal of kind at senior level would be seen as a step in the right direction, even if nothing else was won.

Limerick won Munster last year but I am not sure I remember anyone using that to suggest the county had a successful year.

I think it is a pity but I think both League and Provinincial titles have diminished in value.

I would love to see the winner of the league automatically qualify for the All Ireland series, counties would take it more seriously then imo.

If that was the case then 1 county would be trying out players in the provincial games with the knowledge that they are already quailfied unless they reduce the number of qualifiers from the province to 2 and dont allow the league winners play in their province. that won the league to 2. It will never happen

I hate to admit but that KK team played a more attractive type of hurling for me.
The Limerick team are awesome also but they took a more systematic approach to game using all the modern coaching principles and tactics - similar to Dublin footballers.

The Winner of the League guaranteed Automatic Qualification for Championship, well fuck me the irony as we have been pissing through it since 1998. Lads get a grip FFS. The fawning over Limerick followed by Nostalgic Fawning over Kilkenny. GOOD FUCKING GRIEF. Its a bear pit because its the best Competition in Inter County GAA.
Don't mind your fucking 3rd Place, relying on other results. Win every game and the All Ireland. END OF. SWEET JESUS lets wave the white flag.

Honestly, I’ve never ever heard any Cork hurler mention how many Munster titles he has. It’s just not where the bar is at.
Incredible stories about the Munster championship games for sure but lord god if a lad said he had x amount of Munsters he’d be laughed at…
Last year Limerick didn’t reach the All Ireland fir the first year in a long time.. As other posters have pointed out here better than I can no doubt a few of the Limericks legends are gone past peak, still brilliant though.
It’s no slight on anyone, but the end comes for every great team…
As it was often said the best player and the best team ever, haven’t been born yet.

Same as the taiteann cup winner in football
