Cork Hurlers - Part 2

Bit of a novel league final with tipp v cork or galway. All 3 would bite your hand off for a national title. Such a pity only 2 weeks before start of the championship.
the 2 week break between matches in ideal, if we dont beat Galway then we have a month free,
The only place the calendar might catch us is the champ. match v Tipp which is a week after the Clare match,
however Tipp will have had the exact same schedule as us, they play Limerick the day we play Clare.

Not sure about that. Last time we got to a League final in 2022 just under 19000 turned up in Thurles v. Waterford. It was a Saturday evening game, but still... The days of 40 thousand at a league final are long gone, I'd say.
Jesus that night against Waterford was depressing. Torn apart.

That could well happen. But first we have to beat Galway and then get a home final. Two big ifs.
30 thousand would be a good turnout and would buck recent trends but it is hardly "a sellout regardless of the venue".
There was 23k at the Limerick match. I may have overstated it but I wouldn't be surprised by 35k in Cork. I'd put the number in Thurles to be near 30k, Either way it would demonstrate the amazing Cork support.

Close to 30k tickets sold for that game v Limerick.
7K never showed despite buying a ticket......and I didn't blame them one bit. An absolutely horrific night weather wise. Got some wetting and I up towards the back of the stand. May as well have been on the terrace.

I'd be hoping that the league won't distract them from the task at hand. Training schedules will presumably remain as they were. If there's a heavy block of training to be done this week, so be it. Video analysis shouldn't go anywhere near Galway. Guys should be played where they might play against Clare, not in any attempt to neutralise anything Galway might do. That said, a spell by Cooney on the edge of the square might be useful to us - see if we can neutralise him. If we beat them, great. But Galway are not the priority now.

While a league title might be nice, a final against Tipp creates its own share of problems. There's no way in hell we should be doing anything there that'll help them for championship. I'd be very tempted to play a few young guys in positions that they won't be playing in come championship. Give Cahill something pointless to think about. Beating them out the gate, or losing to them, might be the best two options for us if we want to fuck with their heads.

I don't accept that Clare went out to win the league last year. Most teams don't, but if things go well for them, they might. Clare ended up in a semi-final against KK, and a final against Limerick. Two games they had to win for their own psyche. They went all out to win those games, but if they'd been playing Galway, I doubt they'd have given a fuck.

this whole don't want to win the league
or don't want an extra match is silly
If they lose to Galway,
do people actually think they don't play matches for the 4 weeks
to championship
they will have at least two behind close doors challenges with
Leinster teams

What would you put the over/under number for attendance if Cork make the final?

Depends on the weather really and the venue. We have a large cohort of fair weather fans and boozed up teens.

Fine day/evening down the pairc I reckon we sell it out.
Fine day/evening in Thurles I'd say 33k+

Wet day/evening in the pairc I reckon 27k.
Wet day/evening in Thurles I'd say 20k.

Need to get there first though. Next Saturday night will be a good occasion. Looking forward to it.
